Decoys Seafood

Social Profile:

Brian and Teresa Mullins, owners of M&M Hospitality, acquired the property formerly known as Bennett’s Creek Marina to build their newest ventures: Decoys Seafood Restaurant, featuring the Blind Duck Tiki Bar, Bennett’s Creek Marina, and the Landings. The property holds sentimental value to Brian, as he used to launch from the very same riverbanks to duck hunt for over 20 years. The Decoys restaurant name pays homage to this duck hunting history. The outdoor tiki bar, adjacent to the restaurant, is named Blind Duck as a play on duck blinds, to show respect for the area’s history.

Casual, waterside eatery supplying traditional seafood dishes alongside cocktails, beer & wine.

OMG…..just go! The happy-hour cocktails were soo good! We ordered appetizers only and literally arm-wrestled for the last bite I can’t wait to go back. Although, I can’t remember our waitresses name, but she kept the cold water coming on a hot summer day.

This seafood restaurant sits on Bennett’s Creek in the Harbor View section on Suffolk, VA, and it’s a gem. The food is fresh and delicious, the atmosphere is second to none, and the service was excellent. I’m looking forward to returning very soon to try other items on the menu.

Went to brunch on a Saturday and was really pleased. Passed by this place many times but I am glad I tried it. The dining room is nice and they have outdoor seating on the water. Food was really good. I can see dinner outside here alot this summer.

Live entertainment by the outdoor bar and beautiful views of boats and water. Oh did i forget to mention the great food. A great out of the way spot to have drinks on the water and to enjoy a great meal. Parking can be tricky but valet parking is available. Make a reservation in advance if you are able.

The food is delicious and the view is awesome. You should make a reservation before arrive to avoid waiting. I got the ribeye steak with a salmon both of them are fresh. Beside that, you can enjoy the romantic view while you enjoy your meal.

We have been to Decoys as well as the attached Tiki Bar, which even though they appear to be one, they operate separately. Decoys is mostly indoors but offers some patio seating. Would advise making reservations. Has a separate menu as well as serving staff. The Tiki Bar area is a seat yourself, outdoor, more social area. I don’t believe there are servers, or there never has been when I have been there, but you can order your drinks at the bar and they have a separate food bar with a very small, but still good, menu that is more typical of “bar food”. PSA, they have never been accommodating to any substitutions or changes to the menu selections. I love the atmosphere of both, Decoys being a much more upscale dining experience and Tiki bar being a great place to hang out casually, usually listen to live bands, and they even have a small swimming pool that I believe is open to customers free of charge. The staff at both have always been very attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. I’d say the only negative experience I’ve had is the Tiki bar food bar. It may be a coincidence, but every time I’ve visited there have been 2-3 employees working the food bar that have always appeared to be the least happy people working there, lol. Maybe it’s because they get a lot of flack over the lack of food options as well as any substitutions. This last visit, they offered valet parking. First time I’ve seen that there. Unfortunately, by the time you realize there is valet parking available, there is no place to turn around if you prefer to self park. I won’t blame that entirely on them as the area has very limited parking space but maybe an extra sign or two before entering the parking lot, alerting people the line is headed straight for the valets.

Hands down the worst meal we’ve had in a long time, for a high price tag. We went by reviews and photos and were sadly disappointed. We had the crab chowder to start which was lukewarm and not great. I ordered the sirloin that came with broccoli and garlic mash. I subbed the broccoli for a salad (which I never received). My steak was completely bland, dry on the outside with absolutely no seasoning and tasted like something that was microwaved and the mash was cold in the middle… what?? My husband got the lump crab cakes which were cold and not lump crab and he also did not get the salad he asked for. There was no cutlery on the table and we had to ask for it after about almost 5 minutes of having our food. Not isolated, the table next to us had none either and had to ask.

I visited this place on 6/13/22 This was our first time going and there was nothing mentioned online that this place was reservations only. Luckily my uncle and sister got their early to get one for 4 when they reopened. When 4 pm arrived all of a sudden there was a problem. The hostess with the red hair acted as if she didn’t want to be bothered and she informed us that the manager did the seating arrangement incorrectly and they were expecting a party so she had to check on seating for us. There was 6 of us in my party and there was 7 customers total inside. We looking around trying to figure out what the problem was. There was other nice employees who offered assistance but the girl with the red hair left without telling us that someone would assist us. She didn’t say a word. After 20 minutes of waiting we finally got seated in the empty restaurant. The waitress we had was nice and patient and I want to let you all now that during our entire visit no party ever showed and only about 4 more people showed up. So for the unprofessional behavior of the initial hostess I don’t know if I will ever re visit this restaurant. This type of behavior is unacceptable and we never found out what the real issue was. I ordered the seafood combo which included crab cakes flounder French fries and shrimp. I only got about 4 pieces of shrimp that was over fried the flounder had no taste whatsoever. Why is the fish not seasoned? Not even salt and pepper. The crab cake was good. The staff along with the food needs some work. Again make it known online that this is reservations only so people will know in advance
