We visited the restaurant on Mothers Day, 2014. Our family of 4 had only 2 hours for dinner and no reservations. It had been years since we visited the Barnsider, but decided to give it a try. Although the restaurant had a steady flow of traffic, it was not packed. We were so happy to get into a restaurant on Mothers Day. Our experience was not the best, to say it mildly. The crab cake we ordered for an appetizer was cold. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she stated “Oh, I saw him put it in the oven.” I told her that I wanted her to know so that she could make sure the crab cakes my husband ordered for his entree were hot. The remainder of our food took over 30 minutes to come to the table. My children’s chick strips were the size of nuggets and my steak that I requested as Medium well was over done, tough, and a poor piece of meat for $25.00. When I told the waitress, she said “that is medium well” I held the steak up to show how over done and dry it was. She then asked if I would like to have it redone. At this point, we had been in the restaurant almost 2 hours and had to leave for another appointment. Needless to say, we were very disappointed about our $120.00 mother day dinner. We were hoping for a better experience because we live near by and want to support independent, local restaurants.

I wanna break down this experience by dining elements to make sure the good, the bad, and the ugly are spelled out.

Waitress was nice, but slow. Waited forever for bread. Had to get up and grab jug of water to refill our own cups. Mgr seemed disinterested to help her wait staff. The place is dirty. Not an issue that it is old…but it’s dirty. The dim lights hide the dining room. Go in th ed bathroom. It’s dirty. I didn’t want to touch the sink to wash my hands…and I’m in the construction field. 3 out of 4 times service has been poor. We won’t be back

The food was delicious. But the experience was unpleasant, because of a rowdy group next to us.

7/20/13. We were driving back to hotel after finding a BBQ place I wanted to go to had closed when my son suggested this place based on reviews. We went in and immediately the smell of the place hit me. It was not a pleasant smell-smelled musty or rank, or greasy or something. The carpet was sticky in front of our booth. Didn’t really want what was on the menu and the smell and decor was just such a turn off that we walked out and went up the street to a BBQ joint that was open. Have no idea what the food is like here, but just couldn’t take the smell, etc. Really kind of disgusting. No stars as I didn’t actually eat here.

I haven’t been there in a long time but I just got back from my most recent visit. It was great. Steak was great, in spite of the silly warning on the menu that a well done steak might not be.

The company I work for took a large group of over 25 people to this restaurant and they opened up early especially for us. The service was excellent and the food was really good!

Service was slow. Food was over priced. Restroom needs work to the least.

The worst food I ever had in Dayton! Stay home and eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if your only choice is the place.
