This place is usually pretty good. Decent prices, quality selection of roasts, a literal roaster in the middle of the room…

I came here first about 17 years ago while in town on business. The place hasn’t aged much. The rolled green coffee bags surrounding the drum roaster feel cozy. The staff are kind and laid back. The patrons surrounding me are helpful and apologetic for the queue forgetting our order into a long drawn out morning. Once the staff remember to ask us what we ordered what seems to be ages ago they get to work producing a sweet but slightly bitter double espresso served right. I stir the crema with my spoon and let my son know this is how espresso should be served. How it should taste. The atmosphere is welcoming and I feel like I am an old friend and welcome to visit. Even though I really am a stranger and shall not return for another 17 years.

We were driving through Des Moines and were searching for a coffee shop – Zanzibar’s stood out as a great place to try and we were so glad we stopped here!! Incredible mocha breve and sweet cream coffee – my only regret is that I didn’t order multiples!! The flavor of the beans were crafted and curated so well – I wish we lived closer because this place would be a staple for us if we lived in the Des Moines area. Oh, and did I mention the banana bread?? Seriously amazing – some of the best I’ve ever had – great flavor, wasn’t dry, and a substantial sized slice. The place was packed out too, so you knew from the start that it was a great place. The baristas were focused yet friendly and I felt comfortable asking questions if needed. The next time we’re in the area, we’ll definitely be back and I’ll know to double up on my order too!

This is such a great place for affordable and tasty coffee in these days. Everyone works as a team and a busy place, but everyone gets treated equally. Unlike the other coffee and ice cream places now a days where they are emotionally blackmailing you for tips with the name of few questions, its not the case with this place. And even if you don’t tip, you are treated same. As soon as you order they rush you to put in your order in next.

Excellent experience – owner takes pride in her business, waits on customers, and checks in to ensure everything meets your expectations. Coffee and atmosphere are both phenomenal! You must visit Zanzibar’s!

zanzibar has my entire heart. usually i have to order a sweetener in my iced latte with oat milk because the coffee shops pull isn’t great but zanzibar nails it every time and i never need sweetener. their food is delicious. wether it’s a breakfast sandwich, bagel, or chocolate pumpkin bread i have always enjoyed it. i’ve never ordered something from there and not liked it. not to mention the prices are fair for how well they make their items. i wish i knew peoples names because they deserve recognition. one girl has short black hair, wears glasses, and has a cool knee tat, she makes the best lattes. julie is always extremely nice to my dog, the very tall guys there are always so so nice to me and the blonde always recommends new items to try. i look forward to coming here every single day. thank you guys for doing what you’re doing. if it were up to me you would all get a raise. so much love <3 -felicity

OK so I stopped by to have a cuppa joe and MAYBE a pastry. Well there was this roll. It was a lemon basil roll and I am now a little bit obsessed. Not an easy one to forget!

The place is cozy! Their tea menu is great, I didn’t expect they hand me such a tea menu. Their coffee is also great and you can choose to have that day’s brew or get a French press of the coffee of your choice. The breakfast was okay, nothing impressive about it to name here!
