A self-proclaimed kicked-up BBQ joint, Wexler’s does indeed offer some tasty grilled-meat meals. While prices also come at a bit of premium, don’t let the cost deter you; the food is very good. A special call-out goes to the “Scotch eggs”, which are too fancy to be real Scotch eggs according to my British friends but extraordinarily delicious. Also consistently excellent is the chef’s pork plate, which despite being a day-to-day mystery, is guaranteed to be good. The cocktails prepared by the bar are similarly tasty, and the restaurant decor is minimalist, clean, and modern. All-in-all, highly recommended for a hearty meal and well-crafted drinks.

My main complaint is the service before the meal. When we arrived (only 3!), we were told that “a table is being prepared, we’ll seat you in just a few minutes.” 15 minutes later, we are still standing and rather displeased by this point, and the skinny brunette hostess assures us “Sorry, the party has paid and is on their way out!” (which, to me…is very different than “a table is prepared”). 15 minutes after that, the people finally leave. At least it gave us time to (very thoroughly) browse the menu and drinks? It’s fine if you don’t have a table for patrons immediately, but you NEED TO LET THEM KNOW. We were not happy after our 30 minute standing wait.

Went here for a late dinner date. While it wasn’t our first choice, it was still an enjoyable experience. The waitress was a tad all over the place for a slower than usual night but I still enjoyed my cocktails and dinner. What I think is pretty darn awesome is the decor. I can’t get over the large liner on the ceiling. Beautifully done and I will be sure to revisit soon.

It’s a gourmet sandwich shop. We got the lamb and the beef BBQ sandwiches – both were very good (not the best sandwiches I’ve ever had – even Ike’s are better). The cabbage salad was so sour that it was hard to eat and hurt my stomach for the rest of the day.

Great Scottish eggs! They even have a pork plate special every night. Tonight it was a pork chop with grits, kale and shrimp. Delicious!

Don’t bother. Food is okay, not to the standard of the Wayfare Tavern nearby. They have a very mediocre Scotch egg, which is something of a novelty, but is not particularly good. Their New Orleans shrimp boil was basically prawns boiled with ham hocks – good, but not particularly inventive. Service is hit or miss. We saw people getting what seemed to be good service, but our situation was quite different. When we asked the bartender for a suggestion, he told us – in the most condescending terms – all the cocktails he didn’t like to make. As we weren’t wearing drainpipe jeans and knit caps, he probably thought we were about to ask him to mix up a pitcher of strawberry mai tai daquiris.

I wouldn’t describe Wexler’s as a BBQ place -its more of a fancified, gentrified, BBQ-themed place. The decor is super cool and eclectic; drinks at the bar are also fancified and gentrifed – very labor-intensive. The scotch eggs were the best thing on the menu and definitely get the banana cream pie – soooooo good!

I had a business lunch here at Wexler’s. I was pretty hungry, so I got the brisket sandwhich, which was fantastic. It’s not your typical bbq joint with peanut shells on the floor — it does fit in with the financial district crowd. It was well lit and extremely clean. Our waiter was friendly.
