Wasabi offers a wonderful selection of authentic food! It was my first time trying sushi at a restaurant and I was no less than amazed at the quality and the diverse flavors in the We Love Ames roll! We also grabbed Shrimp Rangoons as an appetizer and they were also wonderful! Prices were reasonable for this style of food, although it is pricier than going to a burger restaurant of course. It was a great value for our meal!

The sushi at Wasabi Ames was fresh and tasty. It was definitely made after we placed our order. It is a little pricey for portion sizes but I’m only reviewing it for the Sushi plates in the picture. It helps to have a reservation because then the wait is leaser than walk-in (especially during rush time). We enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be back whenever we can. Thank you for your pleasant service.

One of the best sushis I tasted. Please try crunchy crab roll, Marilyn monroll, angry dragon, along others. Try fried rice and seaweed salad too.

This place is great for a date night. Dishes are aesthetically pleasing but the quantity/price ratio is bad. You don’t get a lot of food for how much you pay.

Mapo tofu was listed on their specials menu, so I ordered it. I received a plate with 4oz of fried tofu covered in a sauce that tasted like soy sauce and brown sugar. Besides being completely inauthentic, it wasn’t even tasty, and I’m baffled how this costs $18 when you can get significantly more, tastier, authentic, mapo tofu at several other restaurants in Ames for $10. Unsure how this made it on the menu.

Ordered what was labeled as Korean bulgogi, it hardly tasted like it should. ( We have lived in both Korea and Japan for many years.) There was no marinade. It was flat, no garlic, sesame seed nor oil, no sugar, and very little if any soy sauce. The beef quantity and quality was good, however. The pork dumplings were not hot and the rice was not hot, tasty nor moist. The dining room was attractive. The restaurant closes at 9:30, one of the employees began to sweep and mop across from our table around 9:10. Another asked if we were watching TV. We were not so she turned it off. Our waitress was attentive but surprised our concerns were not brought to the managing attendant. We were excited by the reviews and the extensive menu. Sad, but it was a disappoinment.

Truly one of the best restaurants in Ames. I have never had anything there that was not absolutely delicious and stellar. Plus the drinks are so good. I highly recommend this place but just realize that parking is very limited and you should definitely carpool if you’re going with a group. It’s packed even when school is out of session. Enjoy!

Fresh, great tasting sushi. Love the Teriyaki chicken . Lots of good gluten free options. Very attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommend this place. Been to the one in Ankeny also, they are both great.
