One of the best shave ice on the island. Everyone has their personal preference about which they prefer. This was recommended to us by several locals and did not disappoint. The fresh fruit, real fruit syrups, coconut cream, and honey make for a delicious combination. The only downside is that seating is limited, and parking can be somewhat hard to find if it’s busier.

During a recent trip to Kauai we tried several shave ice vendors. Waikomo unfortunately did not stand out. Smoothness is crucial to a good shave ice, and theirs was not super smooth. Their flavors taste great, mainly because they are all natural syrups. But these types of syrups tend to lay on top of the ice rather than soak through, leaving the entire dessert watered down. Finally, the price was higher than any other stand, but the amount given was medium-sized at best. Don’t get me wrong: Waikomo is good shave ice with fresh-tasting flavors, and it is very popular on the South Shore. But it didn’t show well compared to others. Take all my money. Easily the best shaved ice on the island. The flavors are fresh tasting, not artificial, and the ice is fluffy not crunchy. The toppings make it all that much better. If you see a line, just wait. It’s worth it.

This was my first Hawaiian Shaved Ice. It was delicious. I shared it with my husband so it was nice to have the two different flavors on each side. The honey and coconut cream on top added a lovely sweetness. My husband enjoyed the fresh pineapple on top. We both thought we would never be able to finish it all, but it was pretty easy to eat it every bite!

This was the most expensive shave ice I had, and also the smallest. I probably wouldn’t purchase this shave ice again unless I was really craving shave ice and this was the only place nearby. It was fine, nothing special about it. I ordered mango and passionfruit, and I had the lychee topping. The passionfruit was a bit too sour for my liking, but still enjoyable. The topping was very good, and so was the mango. After trying other shave ice, it just didn’t stand out to me. Service was good as well.

We’ve had MANY different shave ice in Hawaii over the years. Waikomo is hands down the absolute best!! Real fruit juices and fantastic texture of the ice (seems obvious but that’s not a given at many other places). And then topped with pieces of fruit and haupia (coconut cream). Amazing. We’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Can’t wait to come back in a few days! (Variety of pix attached from our visits over the years)

The reviews don’t lie. Best shave ice on the island. Mine was strawberry and mango. Treat yourself and get the ice cream AND the coconut condensed milk. Literally still dreaming about this amazing slide of heaven. It was even better than Lappert’s ice cream. The only thing I would have done differently is gotten the ice cream without mac nuts because I was regretting having to chew them at the end. Husband got lime and orange or something weird and wasn’t a fan, so think about your flavors, I guess! 🙂

I agree the shaved ice is very good. The syrup is true to the fruit flavor, the shaved ice is finer and melts away in your mouth, and some fresh fruit on top can’t go wrong. However, the portion is not big and the price point is quiet high compare to the other shave ice stores. They close at 5, which is a little early for me, but I managed to get there just before they close to snatch a bowl. I love it, just can’t afford to have too much of it.
