Social Profile:

Via Carota is your neighborhood place for breakfast in the morning sun, a leisurely lunch with a friend, family dinner at the communal table or a late-night amaro at the bar. Via Carota is the West Village gastroteca of cherished downtown chefs Jody Williams and Rita Sodi. Inspired by the 17th-century villa in the hills near Florence which Sodi once called home, Via Carota honors old-world Italian roots, life style, food and décor. Located at 51 Grove Street in the West Village, Via Carota is just one block up from the couple’s other beloved restaurants Buvette and I Sodi and across the street from Bar Pisellino. Via Carota is open all day long serving food and drink, early until late in a true gastroteca fashion.

I’ve been wanting to come to Via Carota for a few years now and I was a tad nervous it wouldn’t live up to the hype and I’m happy to report it did.

I had a great time at Via Carota! This place is hard to get into, but it is worth the trouble.

THIS WAS THE BEST PASTA I’VE EVER TASTED! This place was recommended to us by a local and honestly, me and my family were so shocked about how good the food was. The salad was even good for a picky eater who hates vegetables! Even the seating and menus matched the atmosphere. Overall amazing experience, will be coming back when we visit NYC again!

OKAY… This place was crazy. In an amazing way! The toast with cultured butter and anchovies absolutely melted in my mouth, the flavors so unique and yet tinged with nostalgia and pure joy. Its delightful to experience new flavors as an adult and i was very impressed by the ingenuity of the chef behind that recipe. The salad was a great pairing, crisp and refreshing. The cacio e pepe was delicious as well, you could tell the pasta was extremely fresh. I had my first affogato here that day, and it was the perfect way to finish the meal, and begin my lifelong love for affogato. HIGHLY recommend this place.

I walked in expecting Via Carota to be massively overhyped. I found it appropriately hyped. The food and cocktails were minimalistic without blemish. Reservations are impossible to get but that’s because the majority of Via Carota’s tables are walk-in only. As long as you arrive during off-hours, you can easily snag a table without a wait.

We attempted a walk-in around 5:15PM and lucked out when a party before us walked out and decide to go elsewhere, giving us the indoor spot. Food-wise, the meals were excellent, personal favorites being the cacio pepe pasta dish and the littleneck clams seafood dish. The fried rabbit was interesting as well, especially the fried bread that came along with it. Good service too! Overall, an enjoyable experience.

Rustic Italian restaurant with a good selection of pastas and vegetables. Loved the cacio e pepe and fried zucchini, and their salads are dressed well. Service is friendly and helpful and the overall vibe feels quite homely.

I have wanted to eat at Via Carota for years and finally got my chance last night. We had no issue getting a table. Showed up on Tuesday at 5:00 pm and asked for a table for two at 6:30 pm outside and was told it would be no problem. Once seated, the journey began, and things were solid, but not the phenomenal food experience everyone seemed to talk about. We had the following items: Arancini, Broccoleti, Carote, Grilled Artichokes, Grilled Polipo and Cacio Pepe. Overall everything could have been better but not fantastic. The Arancini had a nice flavor but featured only the tiniest bit of the sausage. The carrots and broccoletti had a good flavor but were overcooked and borderline mushy, which was disappointing. The grilled artichokes were a little bland and very oily; I would not recommend them.

We were excited to try this place but found it overrated. Definitely not worth waiting in line for. We ordered the arancini, anchovy bruschetta, and artichokes for appetizers and they were all very oily and greasy. There was an insane amount of butter on the toasts. The pastas were good but you can get equally good pasta, or better, for a better price. Service was great though.
