Vero Amore – Dove Mountain

  4.2 – 554 reviews  $$ • Pizza restaurant

Aric and Joshua Mussman always had a dream of opening a restaurant that blended a casual atmosphere with an upscale experience. So, in 2006, they decided to turn their vision into reality and opened the first Vero Amore. In everything we cook, we only use the freshest, healthiest, highest quality ingredients. That goes for our salads, our pasta, and our pizza. Speaking of our pie, we use a custom-built oven to create our certified Neapolitan pizza. Our fresh dough and toppings are cooked in the wood-fired oven to make the signature authentic taste we’re known for. We can’t wait to show you pizza the way it was meant to be.

Food is horrible. Ordered chicken piccata, mussels and a Cobb salad. The chicken is rubber and the mussels were tasteless and taste funny. $60 dinner going in the garbage. Never going back.

Food is great, especially the pizza and the bread. They even have a wings joint next to them, which is convenient if someone at your party is not into italian food, and you can order from both to the same waiter/waitress.

If you want an artisan Pizza this is the place to come the pies are tasty and delicious. The only dink on the on them is that I’d like to see little more toppings. They’re red wines on tap are fine. Good food for good price.

Everything is cooked from scratch I’m told and I believe it. The pizza was very fresh, with a light crust and was delicious. The Chianti classic wine was expensive (15 dollars for ~5 oz pour) but very good.

I really wanted to like this place. Great location in a nice area. Unfortunately the food was not very good. We went for dinner, had a couple of pizzas, salad and a kids pasta and two drinks. $75 for isn’t out of the norm (sadly) but the food was just sub-par. Sat on the patio which was nice although the they were playing an odd mix of music. Went inside to use the restroom which wasn’t the cleanest. Hopefully ownership makes some improvements because it has the potential to be a great spot, it just doesn’t seem like they really care enough. I know it’s hard to find good service staff these days but you can’t charge $17-$25/entree for a place that seemed like most of the staff was high school kids who weren’t particularly on top of it.

The margherita pizza was disappointing. The tomato sauce had very little flavor and was watery. The mozzarella slid off of each slice because of the watery tomato sauce. The worst part was the suffocating heat in the dining room; I assume the air conditioning was definitely not working. We ordered a calamari appetizer to start. Within 2 minutes of receiving it, our pizza arrived. We ordered it extra crispy and it was barely cooked. Because of the heat we just wanted to get out. Wouldn’t recommend this place; overpriced and bland, low quality food.

The appetizer was delicious and it came out quickly. The entrees were good, but they took forever to arrive even though the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. We also ordered a few bottles of sparkling water, but they were full of ice and we could barely pour water in the glass. It was pretty annoying. We also though that the food was overpriced.

Oh my. Caesar salad tasted like it came from McDonald’s. No anchovy, no croutons, no flavor. The fettuccine Alfredo was lacking cream and butter and was cold. Very disappointing! I do have to say that the lasagna was, by far, the best thing we ordered. It was quite tasty, The restaurant has two sides to it. One was more upscale – indicative of the prices. And the other was like a pizza joint. They had no room in the upscale side, so we sat on the “casual” side. It felt awkward. The staff is terribly inexperienced. All-in- all, I recommend that it be a no-go.

So disappointed in a once favorite. Ordered for takeout (we live 5 mins away) and Pizza was rock hard, so tiny and just plain nasty! Vero is one of our favorite places, but honestly, for the cost of a higher end pizza it’s not at all worth it. You’re better off at Dominos!

High quality ingredients, good selection of both food and drinks, warm atmosphere and a nice outdoor patio. Went when it was not busy and the service was exceptional. A great place in Marana for an authentic Neapolitan pie.
