This is obviously a popular place, and it’s easy to see why. The restaurant itself is clean and well-appointed, the food is good and reasonably priced, and the staff are pleasant and helpful. I’m a bit surprised that they aren’t open a little earlier in the mornings, but that’s life. It made a convenient halfway-point stop on our drive from the Twin Cities to Duluth, and it was a great breakfast place. Their caramel rolls are no joke – don’t miss them.

Only a hour & 15 min drive from Mpls. & St. Paul, Tobie’s Restaurant is the place to go to get out of the city.

Absolutely the BEST fried cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had!!! The ones with the nuts on top. I’ve been trying for years to find a donut that resembled the one the of a bakery I worked at when I was in high school. 13 years later I’ve finally found it!!!! But that’s not why you should stop. You should stop because it is absolutely the best place to stop on the way between Duluth and the twin cities. The restaurant connected to the bakery is also a must try for breakfast. My dad said they have the best burgers but the breakfast was so great!!! Also the gift shop is just filled with unique stuff. I’d love it more but I will say it’s a bit overpriced. Ok a lot over priced, but that’s fine, just spend your money on the donuts and rolls!!!!

I hadn’t been to Tobies in years. Looks like they have been doing well as it’s basically a tourist destination half way between the Twin Cities and Duluth. The steak and eggs was as one would expect from a diner that serves a ton of folks a day, but it had the price to match at coming in under $20 including caffeinated beverage. The eggs were cooked with some oil that I wasn’t a fan of so only took a bite before leaving the rest to hopefully avoid indigestion. Overall satisfied with the protein offering and if you wan t reasonably priced food definitely stop in.

Food was great, lots of people going in and out. Getting out of the parking lot is chaotic. Side shop if you’re getting pastries to go and sit down section and bar. Pull tabs are a little light but a nice option to spend some free time waiting for servers. Southern Eggs Benedict was a great dish in the morning.

I heard a lot about Tobie’s and this was my first hand experience trying during my recent visit to Duluth. It was perfect midstop on my drive route from minneapolis towards Duluth. Where i indulged myslef in savory cinnamon rolls, pecan pie and coffee. It was awesome and lived to its reputation. I was so hungry i ate the whole dessert myslef. Tobes serve their special brewed coffee, i had picked mine from caribou at filling station next door. Overall i loved the place, it was full of people and staff was very nice and courteous. They have restrooms as well and souvinier shop attached to the bakery section.

Tobies is an institution! With that said, it is a fairly captive audience, so prices are high. It’s good food, not fantastic. The baked goods are fantastic, however. That’s what you go for! Carmel rolls and cinnamon rolls are the staples here. Get one of those with a coffee to go to spare yourself from the extremely dated decor inside.
