Located on historic Pemaquid Harbor just a log roll down the hill from Fort William Henry, The Contented Sole began life as a cannery ~ smack dab on the water. Although modest, the building lends itself to stylish indy chic events with expansive views, a beautiful dock, and water everywhere! Informal lobster bake or elegant plated dinner, the food is extraordinary. We are Closed for the Season. See you in 2023!

We stopped here on a beautiful, sunny June day after a 1.5 ride on the Hardy Boat Cruise line to see the puffins. We were hungry and heard from a woman who worked at the Hardy Boat dock that the food was good, and that her son was a waiter there. What a great spot! We arrived about 1:30pm, and walked right in. My husband and I had an Allagash White, and he had a cup of clam chowder & grilled haddock sandwich, and I had the fresh haddock tacos. Wow. All were delicious, and so fresh and healthy. It was exactly what we needed after being out on the water – a relaxing spot with delicious food and beverage – and a clean restroom as well. The service was great, and we’d definitely come back next time we are on the Pemaquid Peninsula.

I dined at the Contented Sole today for lunch with my family. We enjoyed the fish tacos + fish sandwich very much! We’ve been here many times and have always had a great time sitting on the deck. It can be helpful to make reservations, as it gets busy during the summer!

Loved this little gem! We went to see the pemaquid point lighthouse and this was nearby. Tables on the dock and inside. Beautiful view of the bay all around. Great food and drink served with a smile.

Family dinner was wonderful. We had a slight wait to sit on the pier but it was worth it. We got to watch a gorgeous Maine sunset while enjoying the *amazing* melt-in-your-mouth food. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious. Lobster and fish tacos were heaven. Clam basket was perfect. Aside from the food and sunset, the other star of the show was our fabulous waitress Sarah, who made us feel like old friends. She was so genuine and attentive. If I had to find criticism, it would be that the hostess wasn’t very welcoming (I noticed warmth toward the younger people in our party and coldness toward the older) and that the bathrooms are not marked at all, causing confusion for several patrons.

We were planning on placing an order for take-out over the phone, however never got through. We were informed that they do not pick up the phone, so you need to place your orders in person! Service was good. Order consisted of Fish tacos (2), Crispy Brussels, Dirty Fries, Kids Tenders, Kids Mac N Cheese, and Clam Chowder. Fish tacos are amazing and kids meals were solid! Crispy Brussels were not crispy, overly oily. Dirty Fries were good, but felt that there needed to be more toppings. Clam chowder was solid! Parking can be a bit tight.

Food is amazing here. We’ve had tacos, lobster rolls, Korean BBQ, fish, pizza, salads, etc. and it’s all excellent. Service is great and the atmosphere is laid back and friendly. Great views from the dock, and seating is available both on the dock and inside. Definitely a place you can take the kids as well – food options for them as well as things for them to see on dock while waiting.
