Tonight is the last time dining at carriage house.
The restaurant is extremely dated inside and showing it’s age.
The service was painfully slow. There were only a handful of tables and 3 wait staff.
The food was blah. The vegetable soup was a bowl of broth with a few pieces of vegetables and so salty
They ran out of the lima beans which were the special of the day. It was at 5pm as well
The baked potato was the worst baked potato I have ever had. It must have been cooked at 8am and sat all day. The broccoli was water logged and inedible
The chicken parm was cold
Will not be visiting again

We came to the restaurant today, Saturday November 8th, 2025. We aren’t from Winston, we are actually from Hickory NC and was in town for a party. I will be honest, we were first going to Texas Roadhouse and a last minute look online I found this place. Upon arrival, I was hesitant because there wasn’t many cars in the parking but I am so glad we went in. We got out of the car and they were playing 94.1 which is what we are listening to in the car. The waitress we had was awesome! She had only been there 6-7 weeks she said but she was amazing. The food was very good, especially the Spinach artichoke dip! 10/10 recommend this place! I am a firm believer in tipping and we made sure to give this waitress the tip she deserved. I wish I knew her name….

I almost never give 5 stars to a restaurant but Carriage House is doing everything right. Small independent place with simple southern food. Service was excellent and the bathrooms and dining area were super clean even in the middle of lunch rush.

My first thought was that all the food is under seasoned across the board. However while I had stumbled in here in a quest for lunch the majority of those there were in the retirement age bracket. So I understand that they may cater to that. The waitstaff were very accommodating and polite. My food came out very quickly and it was piping hot. It is a nice place if you prefer less seasoning on your food.

We were visiting from Cary and had read all the good reviews, so maybe I set my expectations too high. Four of us got different meals, all were just okay — like someone else said, a little underseasoned, but bland ingredients in general. The waitress was friendly and attentive but neglected to mention that you pay at the front (we had been waiting for her to finish eating her lunch while on break so we could pay the bill). It was not crowded for a Saturday lunch, nor was it loud so we could hear each other.

We went here to have lunch after my doctor’s appointment because it was close. The parking was limited so we parked in a access lot across the street and walked to the restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant there was this musty damp smell of old mop water. Now we were greeted fairly promptly and asked if we wanted a table or booth we gave our response and was told there would be about a few minutes wait. Which I thought wasn’t bad at all for it being lunch time. When our booth was ready we were walked back and seated. A few minutes later a waitress came over gave us menus and took our drink order now by the time the waitress returned with our drinks we were ready to place our food order. I ordered the grilled chicken salad w/raspberry vinaigrette dressing and hubby ordered the beef tips with a baked potato and a side salad. While we waited for our food I took this time to notice the vibe of the restaurant nothing to out of the ordinary I noticed that there were a lot of elderly individuals and what seemed to be regulars who interacted with the waitresses as well as the young gentleman who was clearing and cleaning the tables. Well once our food arrived hubby said grace and blessed the food. Now in my opinion the food just didn’t look very appitizing hubby said that his beef tips didn’t really have much flavor and my salad wasn’t good so I only ate half of it. I took the rest home and that’s only because hubby has this thing about wasting food. Now upon leaving there was a gentleman who greeted our exit and asked how everything was. I assume he may have been the manager we simply responded fine and was on our way. I have another doctor’s appointment coming up but we won’t be returning here for lunch.

I had a salad with blue cheese dressing, shared Calamari with my Dad, crackers, Chicken Alfredo Fettuccine pasta with 1 piece of garlic bread, & Cheerwine. Tasty food & drinks. I will come back. There is parking in a parking lot. I will try other pasta dishes next & the quesadillas.

Catfish is excellent choice. A good selection of well made sides. The Beef Tips main is unique and delicious. Good size portions.

Great food as always! We have been going weekly. Really good selection and really good food. Most restaurants in the area that have been in business this long, have fallen off. Not the carriage house!! Love it
