A lovely evening. Food was delicious. Don’t expect super thick steaks as these are hand cut here cooked perfectly and delicious. Sides and beverages as well as service were wonderful. Atmosphere gives you a sense of Virginia history with some original 1837 floors and other items in place. Registered on the History registry and still felt clean and appealing. Will definitely come back. Good for special occasions as well as weekly dining as reasonably priced.

Outstanding service, food and decor! The restaurants on the main drag in Louisa fare a far second to this beauty! The meals are 5 ⭐️, generous alcohol pours and the lady proprietor knows how to make you feel special. In the area?? Worth the drive!!

This is the first time I have visited Tavern on the Rail. What a magnificent place to dine with a ton of history on this building. The food was served fresh and hot and the price is more than fair for the serving sides. They have full bat down below that I’ll have to check out. I had the special ribeye, the small cut. Holy cow! It was huge and delicious. They moderately priced items on the menu should you want something more mainline. Please give this restuarant a try as they are absolutely wonderful!

On 5/13/2023, I returned since it had reopened as a diner restaurant after only being a deli and gift shop. The food was great. The setting was quaint and lovely. The food server’s attentiveness and timliness was fine especially considering they were extremely short staffed as was often loudly announced. However, what used to be a fine dining experience was dampened. by a few things … I arrived at the time of my reservation and stood around with other people waiting to be seated. A lady came over to remove an outdated chalkboard menu that was left up by the door. I told her I had reserved a table just for myself as she did not acknowledge us waiting and she just wanted to plop me down at a large table for a party of 10 or more. When I asked her why, she kind of got an attitude and said something that seemed to imply that there were plenty of chairs as if other solo diners would be seated there for convenience. I told her I wss not keen on sitting with strangers and she was abruptly like “well will this do?” pointing to a small 2 person table which is where I sat. The approach of the server was something you see more in a country truck stop diner and kept calling me “sweetie” Their was a radio station playing loudly over head that played biker bar classic rock with commercials and frequent yacking DJ which totally ruined what could have been a wonderful ambiance. The menu is now “limited” and will be “whatever the chef decides” on any given day. The diners were give copies of a handwritten menu. I’ll give it sometime. For the setting and prices. I was expecting a more relaxing fine dining experience.

Love Love the new atmosphere. Long tables for large parties, downstairs has been rearranged with beautiful new etched tabletops. Pastries/bread are so good.

Went on Valentines day and there was a limited menu. We had the salmon which was too salty. Rolls were ok and seemed like a box mix. The green beans had an overly smoked flavor. Desserts were just right and Felicia was an excellent server.

They are hurting for staff help. Food was good, not great. But lack of good qualified help is hurting the place.

Interesting old Tavern in the Mineral area.. We dined outside on the shaded patio and enjoyed the many flowers there. Perfect for an early dinner. Tempting menu. The oysters were tasty and plump. Also good vegetarian choices and yummy desserts. The service was friendly and prompt.
