We were driving through Aitkin and saw this cute BBQ shop, decided to stop for lunch. Four of us ate – all of us loooved the dishes. Pulled smoked pork was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Beer battered French fries nice and crispy. Decor was cute, following their theme of pigs, cows, and chickens. Staff was pleasant, and the owner / cook came out to check on people.

My new favorite place to eat in the area, my only complaint is when they are out of something you want! But we all know why, because the food is on point. Also big portions, woot woot. Is is family owned and they did the renovations of the space, I love the atmosphere. They are so welcoming and care about the customers, they love when you leave happy and full.

Good food, excellent prices, and extremely great service make this a great place to stop for a meal. I have a discerning eye for BBQ, and I was not disappointed in their food. We had brisket and pork ribs, while the kids had brisket grilled cheese. The brisket grilled cheese was my favorite of all these, with the extra spicy sauce a close second. It was all good though, and there was nothing left when we were done. Prices were better than other BBQ joints I’ve been to previously, and the service was outstanding! Super helpful, patient, and friendly staff, and very fast service. If I am in the area again, I will definitely return!

The food we had was really scrumptious- we loved the sauces and the smoke flavor and tenderness of the meat. What really stood out to me though was the amazing communication among the staff, and also with the customers. The person at the register really cared about making everyone’s barbecue experience right for them-(asking about options for sauces, no sauce, sauce on the side, making menu recommendations). Fantastic and so impressive. Then, the person who brought up the food confirmed the order elements with us again! So thorough- I really enjoyed this place (especially the service) and will be back!

Good food. Nice establishment. Clean and nice decor. Came with three young kids. The owners were very friendly and came to chat at the end of our meal after the lunch rush was done. Very kind and offered the kids stickers at the end. Would recommend!

Some of the best barbecue I have ever had. I got the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was juicy, tender, and had exceptional flavor. The barbecue sauce is made in house, and it is truly the best sauce.

Just when I thought Northern Minnesota couldn’t get any better – Smokey Jake’s BBQ happened! Between the incredible pulled pork grilled cheese, the best cheese curds I’ve ever had, & genuinely kind & humble owners, this is truly a hidden gem located in the wonderful little town of Aitkin.
