Like others I had been turned off by their unreliable hours. I get it. You pull over off the road, mouth salivating…. Or perhaps you left home specifically for a delicious cake during what you thought were their hours and certainly normal business.. just to approach the jubilantly designed faced to find they’re closed. It feels a bit like a slap in the face for your efforts. So I get it. But after so long of not trying. I stopped off and my mango cupcake was perfection! Im not one for overly sweet nor do I like fillings. But this filling was just tge right portion and not filled with a cheap artificially flavored gelatin. The cake was texture and consistency. The icing was the perfect portion (not overly iced) and that mango slice on top was just so juicy and fresh. Damn. It was good.

A few family members and I stopped by Shortcake for the 1st time. It’s a cute quaint little place and the young lady taking care of us was extremely sweet, pleasant, warm, and informative. I wanted to try the pound cake, but didn’t really want to have to purchase a half of one; they didn’t sell it by the slice but I got it anyway, thinking I’d share it with the rest. We got a pack of chocolate chip cookies and apples pastries, along with the cake. I only tried the pund cake and cookies. I liked the cookies after microwaving them for about 20 seconds. The pound cake had a fairly good flavor but it was quite gritty, as if made with some coconut flour. I’ve done some baking with coconut flour and almond flour but can’t tolerate the coconut flour as it gets stuck in my throat. My other family members didn’t enjoy any of theirs…they reported that the apple pastries were overloaded with dough with very little filling and did not like the cookies. They reported that the items were bland.

I was very pleased stopping by shortcake bakery bec it was an oasis in the middle of my bike ride…right off bike trail. I was trying to find a place that had beef patties. I was so wanting a beef pattie for some reason. No luck in silver spring. I decided to stop here. Wasn’t expecting beef patties but Just about the only thing they had was beef patties so not too much of a selection. But exactly what I wanted and needed. Very chill place and the outdoor seating very nice.

Was pretty excited to try this place out because I like supporting local businesses. I’ve stopped by here even during their unreasonably selective hours of operation. Even when I come at the time their sign says they’re open, they aren’t open. What’s the point of a store front if you don’t operate as a store?

Though it was 5:20 when I arrived and they close at 7 and had only been open 2 and a half hours, only 3 cupcakes were available and they were all chocolate. Other than quiches, there was not much else available at all. I ended up getting cookies because I felt bad walking out with nothing and the 2 stars are for the cookies because they were quite good and one for the nice man working. It is disappointing to look at the menu, get your hopes up, and there be nothing available that was on the menu. If you are set on cupcakes that aren’t fully chocolate, I’d recommend trying somewhere else.

Shortcake is a great local bakery that offers really good quality products. I have tried their meat patties and cookies, which have all been delicious. They offer a weekend brunch in collaborations with Maryland Meadworks which I have not tried, but it looks tasty and fun. Great location right off the Northwest branch trail.

I order a few cupcakes, they were dry, the taste was ordinary. They didn’t have much of a variety, all was chocolate everything. Overly sweet and creasy. Hate to say it as I was looking forward to it. I have stopped here about 3 times always close.

What motivates me? AWESOME SWEETS! Thank goodness I live close to Shortcake Bakery! It is my motivation when I need a little 🙂 I ride my bicycle on the local trails and my reward for riding 25 miles or more is something yummy. Shortcake is my last stop after a long ride as it never fails to make me want to earn some cookies tomorrow. If you haven’t stopped by there, you really should. The staff is warm and welcoming and it is just so awesome. I just can’t say enough great things about this bakery!
