The ribber fries were really house made chips. They were super good and dipped in their house made buttermilk ranch – heck yeah!
Potato had to have some ranch love. The rolls! My son slammed those warm rolls and said they were better than other steakhouse ones.
The atmosphere was hopping on a Wednesday- and they were turning tables.
The menu offers so many options that we will return. It is worth the extra stop through Portsmouth to eat here.
The green beans were fair, I personally don’t like the taste of can- these may not have been rinsed, but they were okay.
You pay like $2.50 for a small container.
And the baked potato was horrible, they give you fake butter spread for it & a generic pack of sour cream.
Our waitress was terrible, no napkins even after asking 4 times!! The table behind us gave us some.
Charged for baked beans and never got them. She huffed and puffed when I mentioned it upon getting the check.
Drove 3 hours. Won’t be doing it again. It’s okay but it’s not all that
We found plenty of parking next door to the place. We approached what we thought was the front door, since it was on street and had the hours of operation on it. After opening it there was a giant sign on the second door asking people to venture behind the smokers outside to find seating. Someone popped their head out the front door when we were trying to figure out what all that meant to begin with.
They sat us in the bar area straight away and a server took our drink order on the spot. We ordered a “large” ribeye and the proverbial potatoes with green beans.
The steak was “okay”. It had a 60.00 price point on it so I wasn’t expecting SW at the Wynn Kobe Ribcap, but for what it cost it was adequate. The bread was really good they served pre meal. The potatoes and beans were just okay too. Mine was barely hot enough to melt the butter that came in packs on it. The beans were packed in little plastic cups which was bizarre in its own right as well. We weren’t ordering to go so why was it packed like KFC?
The service was great with a couple of different people providing different things for our table of two.
The check was amazing as we had apx 32 ozs of ribeye steak, 4 sides and two drinks for 78.00 (tax included). That is a hell of a deal in this climate considering what beef prices have done the last several months.
If you’re in the Portsmouth Ohio area and you don’t stop and try this place out you’re probably a vegan or you’re just being mean to your date.
The sides come in smaller portions than you might expect for the steak price point, but there are a few worth noting. The baked beans stand out—clearly seasoned separately and full of smoky flavor. The green beans are cooked with the steak au jus and other spices, giving them an unexpected Worcestershire-like flavor. Not bad, just a little different. The coleslaw, on the other hand, feels more like a straight food-service mix. Good, but nothing memorable.
Overall, the Scioto River is a good local spot for barbecue and comfort food, with steaks that satisfy without trying to compete with the big-name steakhouses. Go in with that mindset and you’ll leave full and happy.
