Pollo Loco isn’t technically open, but we were able to order from their menu and dine at their sister/adjoining restaurant. We ordered a guacamole appetizer at a cost of $10.90. The app consisted of chips, 4 oz. of salsa and 4 oz. of guac. We both ordered the Carnitas Chimichanga plate, which was supposed to include a “Mexican salad” – ours was shredded lettuce only. The sauce on the chimichangas was great. I wish the restaurant luck. If you want good Mexican food with better service, there are several other choices in town that I think are a much better value and have great tasting dishes.

We received and paid for street corn that we did not order, we had to flag someone down for napkins. The staff upon leaving,( though there were six of them having a conversation) not one of them bothered to thank us though we spent more than $60 for a light snack. On the positive side the view was lovely, the street corn was delicious! (The margaritas were average and expensive.)

Taco Bell serves more authentic food than this place. Chips and salsa are for purchase only and consist of salsa from a jar, spicy “salsa” is Pete’s or Siracha, and the $16 steak burrito in the picture consisted of a stale tortilla, runny refried beans from a jar, rice, and a bite size piece of steak. When I told the waitress that I am sending it back, the first thing she said “is there nothing in there?”. They must be used to disappointing customers because the manager did not even bother to stop by and apologize, the place was empty so he must have been sleeping. Collectively we all agreed that this restaurant was not worth another try. Hopefully this review helps you and your experience will be better, we are sticking with Margarita’s and Fiesta Mexicana!

Arrived and was seated and drink order taken. Someone other than the waiter brought the mixed drink but did not bring the water that I ordered. They delivered a basket of chips and salsa which was essentially pureed tomatoes and nothing else. After waiting for half an hour and no one came to take our order we asked for our bill. Can’t say whether the food was good or not but the service definitely sucked. I live here and I will not be back nor will I recommend it to anyone.

**RUN** NOT AUTHENTIC**We came to the restaurant looking for some good Mexican food. This place was horrible. Not authentic at all. Our whole table was disappointed in their selections. It was so bad I requested a manager. We weren’t looking for a discount or anything, but he did take some off the ticket. The nachos were decent, but the cheese could’ve been a little warmer. The empanadas, street tacos, enchiladas . No free chips and salsa. The salsa came out of a jar. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The Pollo Loco Mexican Cantina was added to the already existing Clearwater Oyster Bar. My advice is stick to what you know … seafood. We live nearby and decided to try to the new Mexican side of the restaurant. The only reason I give this 2 stars is b/c our bar tender investigated why our Margarita was so bad. She found the issue, corrected it and did not charge for either Margarita. Service was very slow as like every other restaurant in Myrtle Beach they seem to be understaffed. When our food was delivered it looked very unappetizing. Neither of our dishes were hot … luke warm at best and the taste was awful. I could only eat half of my chicken rice bowl. Since they recently added the Mexican choice, I wonder if there are separate seafood and Mexican chefs. If there is only 1 trying to cook both, I say stick to what you know. Most likely the seafood b/c the Mexican was terrible.

We had just gotten to town, super hungry, & looking for somewhere different. The gentleman who greeted us (super nice) told us that the seating area was under renovations. No problem. It took a little bit to be waited on. Still no problem because we know how short staffed people are. We had seen on the sign that happy hour was 5-7 & there was a 3 tacos with a beer 9.99 special. When my boyfriend asked for it the waitress said happy hour ended at 6. We were confused but figured maybe we’d read the sign wrong. We did not read it wrong. We ordered chips with salsa & cheese dip 9.99. The chips were greasy & way too salty & I love salty chips. The salsa was mediocre & the cheese was really good. I ordered fajitas & my boyfriend ordered regular grilled chicken tacos with just cheese & pico. My order came out first & his followed just a mi ute later but it was wrong. He was given chicken street tacos. No problem. Easy fix. He got his right ones in no time flat. The rice was super & the refried beans were meh. The chicken on his tacos was bland. My chicken fajitas were very good but there was a ton more veggies than chicken. The waitress seemed distracted (or maybe tired) & not attentive. I ran out of drink & my boyfriend wanted another beer but between the food delivery & check delivery she never came back. She asked if we wanted desert & my boyfriend said no b/c the food wasn’t great. She said told us that she hated to say it about where she works but we ordered Mexican food in a seafood restaurant so we shouldn’t have really expected much. Maybe we shouldn’t have. We both thought our food would be fixed in the mexican restaurant kitchen since we were told that kitchen was open. It was way overpriced & not anywhere we will visit again. Just a smidge up is a true Mexican restaurant called Margaritas that will blow your socks off. Save yourself time, money, & a belly ache & go to Margarita’s.

To start with, The waiter put in the wrong order, we waited twice as long as we should have. The food was mediocre, at best, the cheese dip wasn’t good. Once we got our correct order, the chicken chimichangas, they had little to no chicken in them. When the waiter brought the bill, he charged us for the mistake and our actual order. I spoke with a manager and told her l was not happy with the service, and the food. She offered no solution to the issues we experienced, or any kind of discount for our disappointing experience. One of the Worst dining experiences ever. Definitely would not recommend Pollo Loco. Peeps stay way!!

The food used to have very little flavor, but since they hired a new kitchen staff for Pollo Loco, everything is as authentic as it could possibly be. The new recipes are exceptional!! I had the chicken and cheese empanadas, fresh chips, salsa, guacamole, and tacos. Couldn’t get enough! Much much MUCH better!! I’m impressed.
