Panerai Bread is not the place it used to be several years ago. It used to be you got your money’s worth of food, now it’s like their food sizes are smaller and the price got higher. I came to this new location hoping it ŵould be different, boy was I wrong. First I ordered their chicken cranberry sandwich, but I customized it to only have romaine lettuce arugula. I get the sandwich and they slapped iceberg lettuce in it. Either the staff think they’re funny or they don’t know the difference between iceberg and romaine. They didn’t give me the receipt, so that was scrapped. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable because it seemed like they wanted me to hurry and leave even though their hours show they’re open until 9pm. Probably not going to be doing Panera anytime soon.

I’ve been going to this Panera location for years, and they’ve always offered top-notch customer service and good food. The pricing is good for the area—a meal for one including a drink would run $20 or less.
The food quality stays the same—I should know, since I always order the same things lol. They’ve never messed up on my customizations, either.
*I don’t ever dine in, because this location is by the mall and popular around lunch time, and I’d rather eat in a quieter environment lol. They do seem clean and on top of things despite the rush^^

Today, I ordered delivery from this Panera, but my order was All Wrong. The Dasher was rude, gave me the wrong order, and then told me to “tell the app” when I told her about it (I had thought that maybe she was delivering multiple orders and gave me the wrong one).
I drove to this location, about 10mins from where I work, and spoke with Bonnie at the drive thru window. She made sure I got my order, and she informed her manager of the issue with my delivery and dasher. Bonnie was the sweetest person in the world!! She turned my hangry, late-start morning completely around <3
The manager, Hillary, came to the window and assured me that they would handle the issue with the dasher, as they don’t want rude deliverers or ones that will mess up orders with no care.
Both Bonnie and Hillary asked if there was anything they could do to compensate for the prior issues, but honestly I was just happy to get my food!

Had an amazing experience with Josiah called to place an order he was not familiar with my type of order but executed the order properly. How to place me on the hole make sure to come back with answers and check in so that I didn’t feel like I was on hold very long. Great customer service with absolutely returned because of him kudos Josiah

Great service and the food is always hot and ready. I came in for a to go order but stayed to enjoy the tomato soup with a side of baguette and the light roast coffee. Plenty of open tables and no wait time.

Overall Score: 6.8/10
Panera with a drive-through and an open, simple dine-in layout. Mostly clean inside with clear digital boards for menus and orders. Online ordering is easy to use. Food and prices feel consistent with Panera and fair for the quality.

Online ordering 7.5/10
Website is straightforward and simple to navigate. Getting an order in is quick and hassle-free.

Dine in 5.1/10
Dining area is standard and pretty bare-bones. Fine for a quick sit-down and generally kept clean.

Food 7.2/10
Tastes like typical Panera—reliable and familiar. Feels clean and matches what you expect from the chain.

Price 7.4/10
Price isn’t bad for the quality. Comes across as a decent value for a casual meal here.

I placed an order through the Panera app, thinking that would eliminate the chance for mistakes since I entered everything myself with no special requests. I ordered my usual “You Pick Two” — a turkey and cheddar sandwich with a side salad. I drove 15 minutes from work to pick it up, only to return to my office and find that my sandwich had no turkey in it.

This is extremely frustrating because “turkey” is literally in the name of the sandwich. I double-checked my receipt and online order just to make sure I hadn’t mis-clicked, but I ordered it exactly as listed. There was no customization, no special instructions — just the standard sandwich.

Driving that far, spending the time and gas money, only to get back to my desk and realize I essentially paid for a cheese sandwich, feels like a complete waste. Mistakes happen, but this one makes no sense and shows a lack of care. At this point, I’d like a full refund, because I shouldn’t have to pay for food that isn’t prepared correctly — especially when the main ingredient is missing.

This location really needs to tighten up its quality control.

Every time I come here, colonial heights the kitchen manager is rude unfriendly, Never makes sure the food comes out properly. Every time I order a customized simple avocado toast , there is an issue with it and an issue with her attitude. The gentleman at the register is super friendly and over worked.
I paid extra for cilantro , extra avocado garlic aioli and bacon. There was just a small smear of avocado and 1 leaf piece of cilantro literally.

Every now and again, I am pleasantly surprised by a good experience, but in general, this location is often out of critical ingredients like romaine lettuce. The amount of dressing in their ramikens is laughable. Even 4 of them is not enough for a full salad. Regularly, I get a message that they are “behind” in preparing my order (which I’ve never encountered at any other Panera), with no update on when the order will be ready. For reference, I am writing this review while in line at the drive through. I have been in line for 21 minutes. It’s OK, as once again, I got a message that they are behind, so I have no clue when my order will be ready. I will say that the workers have always been lovely and obviously have no role in ordering, portions, etc. Still, if possible, I recommend just driving to the location in Chester to avoid these issues.

I visited on Monday, Dec 1 for the first time in this location. I usually enjoy Panera Bread and have visited numerous times in the prior Colonial Heights location. I was somewhat disappointed due to the lack of cleanliness in the restaurant. Crumbs and trash on the floor and tabletops and there weren’t many customers during this time (around 2 or 3pm). Napkin holders were empty. Bathrooms had pieces of paper and trash around and didn’t appear too clean. Some drink machines were low on beverages. The food was good, however the soup was lukewarm. The salad was very good. Maybe this was a one-off day or there weren’t enough staff. When the server called our name she sounded like an angry mom screaming for her kid (my perception maybe, but didn’t sound friendly). This is not the standard I usually see and expect from Panera in various locations I’ve visited. I may visit again. But if the environment remains similar I will not be going back to this location.

New location at 1955 Southpark Blvd. service is still poor, 20 minutes for a salad is unacceptable. The dining room is much smaller, no booths, and tables are close together ( no privacy). Food is good as always but simply not worth the wait!
