Welcome to the Original Bagel. We are descendants from the first bagel family in Philadelphia. Owner Michael Leibowitz is a fifth-generation bagel baker whose family came down from New York. On June 3rd, 1965, his father Melvin Leibowitz opened the first bagel bakery in Philadelphia called New York Bagel, located in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia. To this day, Michael still uses his fathers’ recipes, boiling and baking his bagels the old-fashioned way. On September 1st, 1995, Michael opened his own shop in the lovely town of Broomall PA. When you come into the store, you will see Michael is always there with his wife Christine. So come on in and taste what a bagel is supposed to taste like!

We love this place. Her bagels are always wonderful. The toppings, however, or sometimes hit and miss. For a long time. My favorite was a pepper and egg on a toasted bagel. But the peppers have been extremely salty over the last few months so I stopped ordering it.

What a treat finding this place along a shopping center in Broomall! As someone who’s frequented New York City bagels and Philly bagels this place is absolutely excellent the bagels are delicious we’ve tried the everything bagel egg bagel and cinnamon as well! The service is phenomenal and everything is well stocked although they will sell out certain flavors early in the day so you can order ahead! The cream cheese is homemade smooth and was well stocked so I was able to get a few different kinds! I already can’t wait to go back to try a bagel sandwich! I love supporting small business when they are this good! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been meaning to write this review for a while now. A friend told me about the ‘best veggie cream cheese they ever had” and then brought me a container to try for myself. They were spot on. The veggie cream cheese is robust full of fresh veggies and delicious. The bagels are made fresh every morning. I have never tried their homemade biscut but I do look forward to it– they have a TON of different flavors and the butterscotch one is calling my name. People there are friendly and take pride in their work. Happy this is a business in my own hometown.
