Mt Prospect – Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria

About Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati’s is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor. Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940’s working in Chicago’s first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago’s best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday.

Family-owned local chain for Italian classics & Chicago-style, deep-dish pizzas with buttery crusts.

A good Lou’s pizza is always welcome. Only issue at this location is the waiting time and waiting area are very cumbersome. I arrived a few minutes early from the time that was on my receipt, just to wait almost 15 minutes while staff and other customers shuffled around the overcrowded waiting area. What’s the point of having a pickup time if everyone is just waiting for 15 minutes? It could have been a busier day than normal, but I’ve never had this issue at other Lou pickup locations. Why are all the refrigerators out in the open, while employees have to ask customers to move every time they need to open a refrigerator? Again no issues at other local locations, so maybe this location is short staffed. Food was amazing as always.

The pizza we ordered from here this past weekend was absolutely horrible. I’ve ordered from this location before but this last time was not good at all! The dough was soggy and undercooked. I had the Lou, and the spinach was soaking wet and left “wet spots” on the pizza. Also, it lacked flavor. No seasonings at all. I’m highly disappointed because this was our go to spot and I will no longer order from this location

Been eating here for years 12 to be exact. I can understand the prices going up but the deep dish is really getting more like thin crust . Less cheese smaller and not cooked good at all. This has been going on the last year. Very curious if under new management. Raise prices smaller pizza and not as good . Totally disappointed in them .

I have never tasted a pizza like this ever and I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. It’s complex like I can’t even tell if I like it or not. From the crumbly bread crust to the super way too thick mozzarella and cheese combo. The giant peppers and stewed like tomatoey sauce. I can’t say if I like it. It was different.

This location is a carry out only which means no delivery or dinning in. It’s very close to my family’s house which makes it very convenient. The wait typically is minimal 30 minutes if you’re ordering a Chicago deep dish pizza. I haven’t been back in over a year and they had my info in the system still from my phone number which was pretty cool. The pizza itself it’s very well made. The ratios of sauce to cheese to crust for Chicago style are very on point. I usually go to Lou’s when I’m in chi town! Definitely gives me that Windy City pizza vibes I’m looking for! I usually get cheese and pepperoni and keep it simple but strongly effective! Lou’s is Bodies by Farny approved!

It’s a take out only place. We come here often for the deep dish pizza, wings and salads. I also come here just to buy my favorite sweet vinaigrette salad dressing.

Having moved away from Chicago it’s always nice to return home and get to eat some deep dish. Food was delicious, had to wait a bit longer than expected but honestly it wasn’t the end of the world.

We love this location of Lous. They nail the pizza every single time. Even the GF is made perfectly at this location. That pizza seems to be very tricky the nail.
