The atmosphere was just right. Not to fussy, just enough personality, and very welcoming. The food was excellent. A very extensive menu made it hard to choose but with recommendations from staff, everything we tried was great! One appetizer shared, two entrees, two beers= enough food to take home and have one more meal for two people. Lamb biryani entree, Palak chicken entree, samosas covered in chickpeas with mint, yogurt and sauce.

The food was of great quality and we all loved it. One of the best indian restaurants in town. I really wish that they allow us to order through Uber eats which they haven’t started yet.

I ordered Uber Eats delivery, the food was delicious, came in fresh. I ordered Chicken Biryana with Garlic Naan, it was well prepared, came in well packaged, and the food tasted great.

Walk into a dining room festooned with fancy bronze chandeliers accompanied by rosewood decor and the hostess and wait staff will greet and serve you with extreme politeness. The first dish to the table was Mount Everest biryani. Extraordinary flavor. The next dish to the table was a chickpea dish which was extremely tasty, but just a little too salty; I returned it and they offered to replace it multiple times, however by then I was stuffed and could not eat it. It was taken off the bill and we left extremely well fed and very happy. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Indian food; the flavors are magnificent.

Some hits, some misses. I ordered the vegetarian lunch special with the dal and cauliflower. It comes with rice and a veggie samosa, naan, and two sauces, as well. For the price the portion is huge. The veggie samosa was not crispy in any way, in fact I found it extremely doughy. There was at least a half inch of dough before getting to the filling. I didn’t like that aspect of it; however, the filling was really great so I ended up scooping it out of the dough. The dal was pretty flavorless on its own, it could have used some salt, but paired with the green sauce it was much better (mostly due to the amazing flavor of the green sauce). The cauliflower was really good, no notes. Green sauce, excellent. Mango lassi, excellent. I also ordered a side dish of chickpea floured fried veggies and it was nothing like I expected. I thought it might be more like tempura but it is not haha. Also quite doughy, didn’t seem to fry individual vegetables so they arrived all stuck together and kind of hard to tell what veggie you’re eating? I’m not likely to order that again. I have a lot of leftovers though and I’m extremely full so hopefully that gives you an idea on portion size.

For 73 dollars I got carry out chicken makhani which tasted old and had no taste, dal makhani which was also tasteless and saag paneer! 2 nans were stale. We have been patrons for this once used to be a great tasting food for my Indian pallet but now we feel almost cheated.

Genuinely awful food. I’ve been going to Indian restaurants for 40 years, and I believe this is the worst we ever had. We went for lunch on Mother’s Day. It was a major disappointment and embarrassment since I recommended it to my son. In brief, all of the food felt dry, cold and pre-cooked with gobs of canned sauces thrown on top of it to hide the stale nature of the food. Without exaggeration, the packaged food from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s tastes fresher and better. The waiter knew we wanted very mild tastes, but didn’t warn us that one of the dishes had a spicy premade sauce. There is very little to say that was positive about our experience. All the dishes were without differences. Similar to some ethnic takeouts. Some vegetables and meat, cooked in the same way, with a different sauce. We used to go to this restaurant on a regular basis, but I doubt we’ll go again. What a shame. So few good restaurants left in downtown Evanston thanks to the dystopian iron rule of the city government. Joy Yee retains authentic ethnic flavors. Otherwise, the former spirit of the downtown area has been crushed and replaced with medical facilities. A memorial to what was and what is..

Mt. Everest was gracious enough to donate food for our student film set, and I will say, the butter chicken and vegetarian biriyani was incredible. As someone who grew up with home cooked Indian food, it felt like I was back in my grandma’s kitchen. The staff was so kind and gracious too. They saved the day, and we will all 100% be going here to eat again. Thank you!
