I want to like this place more than I do…. I’ve been to this place 3 separate times, hoping that I would find SOMETHING that wasn’t bland or oily.

This was the most disappointing chicken soup I have ever ordered. It was bland, chicken was unseasoned and tough and I waited 25 mins for this. There is a whole cob of corn in this soup. When I ordered over the phone, I wasn’t give an option of size. It was overpriced for the quality. I ordered 3 tacos as well and they were good but overpriced as well. If my day wasn’t pushed back from the wait, I would have returned this soup. The waitstaff was amiable and courteous. They gave me chips for my wait.

Wanted to try the barbacoa, but they didn’t have any 🙁 . So I ordered their cecina plate, nice portion and very tasty. The salsas were both good, plus they have homemade tortillas.

They have a separate vegan menu, and not just several items that they can make vegan. The flautas and tacos were amazing. Barely any wait, I just finished my complimentary chips and salsa (red one was so good, even though I’m usually go for the green one), and my food was ready. The staff was really nice, checked up on me several times.

If you are in Pilsen and looking for a authentic Mexican restaurant that serves full vegan, plant-based dishes (hibiscus flower, cactus, eggplant flower, soy chorizo and vegan/pea protein meat) as well as traditional steak, chicken and fish meals, try La Esperanza Restaurant (18th and Blue Island). I had the hibiscus birria taco, avocado taco and a hugh vegan chorizo gordita (in which I could not finish…I was FULL!). Everything is fresh and delicious…even the tea. So good! And the staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Great restaurant with great food.

Solid vegan menu with tons of variety, each of them delicious in their own way. The flutas with vegan meat are my personal favorite with a side of nopales. From the beans down to the sour cream…it’s all so tasty! The meat is also charred to perfection.

Incredible place for authentic Mexican food in Chicago! I live pretty far from here and it’s so worth it to make the trip down… everything we had was incredible and all of the dishes’ portions were HUGE!! You do need to speak a bit of Spanish to eat here 🙂

Was craving some good Mexican and wanted to try somewhere new. Found this little gem in Pilsen. Got a bit nervous when we walked in and the restaurant was empty but maybe we got there too early. Anyways ordered a burrito dinner plater and the bistec mexicana. Both meals were delicious and portions were more than generous. Beyond the delicious food the service was so friendly and attentive. Really had the family owned feel to it. Will definitely come back and try their vegan option.
