I’ve been going there for over 24 years. The food isn’t as good as it used to be, but I’m obsessed with their rellenos de papa (potato ball stuffed with ground beef). The only thing I don’t like is Cash Only payments. But the same man runs the place and he’s very nice and fast.

Moved to CT from NYC and have been looking for a good Boricua spot to remind me of home, thought I’d try this spot because of the rave reviews but unfortunately, this was not it! Stopped in and picked up a bacalaito, 2 alcapurrias and 2 rellenos plus a lunch of arroz con gandules and pernil. The bacalaito tasted like it was left over from the day before and re-fried, it was super hard – not crunchy – HARD on the edges, and gummy center. One of the alcapurrias was not fully cooked on the inside so I could taste the masa de guineo. The rellenos were SALTY! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a stranger to seasoning and some salty savory food, but this was like OD! The pernil while seasoned well was dry (except for the fatty pieces) and the rice was the only decent part of the meal, albeit nothing to write home about. The search continues…

The level of customer service is A+ From the moment you walk through the door there is a very “home like”, welcoming feeling. The food is nothing short of amazing. Always fresh and simply delicious. I live out of state but will always find my way back to La Cagueña because they are simply unmatched.
