Kensho is a tiny Japanese restaurant on the grounds of Yamashiro in Hollywood, and one of LA’s most personal dining experiences.
Kensho – Wine bar restaurant Hollywood Los Angeles
This playful wine bar is the creation of David Wynn (with his former partner Joseph Geiskopf), also behind one of our favorite cafés in the city, Triniti.

Flowering Tree quickly became a favorite place of my partner and I. Jo, the owner, Min, and Jo Jr., were very friendly and the service was exceptional and the food was phenomenal. Min, Jo Jr and I had great conversations the few times we visited as we stayed at the Hollywood hills hotel located on property. The breakfast sandwiches were to die for from the croissants to the paninis as Min is an excellent chef and they weren’t just ordinary sandwiches they were a work of art. The secret homemade balsamic glaze sauce was the topper that pushed this culinary experience over the top and to perfection. They also have a few select beers, sake and a large variety of wines. I highly recommend visiting this intimate Cafe and try as many food items as possible as they are all delicious! The prices are very reasonable cinsidering the location. What a beautiful location. We will be visiting this amazing Cafe every time we visit the area. We definitely some new friends!!

Don’t be like me and order the kyoto style temari sushi . Idk if kyoto style is supposed to be like that but the rice was way too sticky and glue-like . Other than that, the other dishes were absolutely delish and beautiful.

Had high expectations of this place but a few things just fell a little flat. Came here for a casual birthday dinner and was disappointed.

I went with my boyfriend for my birthday and I absolutely loved it!! There was still a wait, despite reservations but the view was amazing and I love the koi. The food was good (I loved the truffle fries) and the staff was nice.

Absolutely love this place. Really amazing selection of natural wines from small producers, and an incredibly friendly staff who genuinely care about and love what they do. The salmon guanciale was out of this world, and the unagi bento was another favorite.

If you want to sit in a unique and beautiful spot sipping natural wines, this is the place to go. Want to empress out of town friends? The patio has a clear view of the Hollywood sign. The decor/design is done in a modern Japanese minimalist style that really suits the setting. The food is good… not cheap… but really tasty. A restful, quiet place just off of Hollywood Blvd.

I haven’t been to Yamashiro in a long time and it has unfortunately not aged well. The building is amazing, but the whole experience of arriving at the front is no longer. What used to be the valet, right at the front entrance is now an outdoor seating area (which adds its own problems as they now seem to have more tables than they can accommodate)

Even an hour after dinner, my mouth is savoring every flavor. Highly recommend ordering the kyoto-style sushi and the truffle toast! I also appreciated our waitress’s perfect sake pick for each of us. I already wish I could go back!

Location was great as it was in a tranquil neighbourhood in West Hollywood, we loved the views outside of the restaurant too.

Gorgeous location on the Yamashiro property. Small but well done. Only did the breakfast set but it was exquisite. Nice beer and wine list as well.
