Social Profile:

Kachka was opened in Portland in 2014 by Bonnie and Israel Morales, and has since become beloved by diners worldwide. James Beard Award nominated Chef/Co-Owner Bonnie Morales and her team cook the food of the former Soviet Republics, including many dishes inspired by her heritage as a first-generation daughter of Jewish immigrants from Belarus. The warm hospitality and lively atmosphere at Kachka turns dinner into an event, fueled by a parade of dishes marked by deep and vibrant flavors such as dumplings, cured fish and pickled vegetables. Kachka serves over 50 different vodka selections, as well a list of house made infusions, craft cocktails, and a curated list of beer and wine with a focus on Eastern European producers.

Great place to try some Russian styled food. They have a large selection of house infused vodkas each with a unique flavor. This place is great for ordering a lot of dishes and sharing with the table. My top item was the beef and lamb cabbage roll in tomatoes.

This place is absolutely delicious and amazing. Don’t be scared away with words like ‘reservation for dinner’ and all that. They accept walk ins. Might be a wait, but it is absolutely worth it! Also, be available to drink because their infusions are amazing.

Loved everything! We had the meat dumplings, the trout, the salmon roe and the rabbit. All delicious! This with a beer and wine came to a reasonable $150 total (Including service). Wish we could eat there every night, but we live in LA

Kachka really surprised me. I came here for dinner with a big group and when we arrived the private room was nicely set up with appetizers waiting. I was initially skeptical about the food because I’ve never been to an Eastern Europe restaurant before but I’m happy I decided to give the food a try! I was blown away by how good everything was. From the fish to the dumplings. Definitely had a great time eating here.

We love this place with all our being. The space is lovely, the leather chairs are so comfortable as well as the benches. There’s not a bad seat in the space. Every time we come in the staff are all so welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. This is probably the best staff in the city, and we say this as fellow restaurant professionals. We made this our voting day spot because it is right next to the polling station, but it has become our favorite restaurant to frequent. The food is incredibly satisfying, fresh, and the vodka infusions are a lovely adventure each time we visit. The happy hour menu is also great, the cabbage roll special comes out on the cutest tray reminiscent of a tv dinner but full of delightfully crafted items that leave you full and feel like you got your money’s worth.

Took our kids here for their birthday dinner and they absolutely loved the experience. Beautiful setting and atmosphere and the dishes were fun to share. Would definitely be back for more with friends. They also have a well stocked bar with delicious drinks. Kids have since learned how to make herring under a fur coat after trying that dish at Kachka.

Kachka offers an incredible experience from start to end. You can just ask the servers and they’ll let you know which plates are the best but to be honest, this is my 3rd time going there and we have never had a bad plate. Everything is delicious! You gotta try the sour cherry dumplings!!! SO SO SO GOOD! If you get there before 6pm you’ll enjoy the happy hour menu which have a good variety of food.

What a delight. You walk in to find a restaurant decorated like an old world Slavic cottage and a fantastic menu of elevated favorites from a variety of countries. We tried and loved the full zakuski menu accompanied by horseradish infused vodka shots which was all delicious. We also added the sour cherry vareniki which were luscious perfect bites. Outstanding service capped off our happy experience.

The restaurant definitely gives soviet union vibes, and all the food is very typical of what Slavic people eat. I had the shashlyk, I didn’t like the marinade, it tasted like it was marinaded in a lot of wine or something similar, I was not a fan. The rabbit was very tender and juicy. And the fish (don’t remember trout or what) with mashed potatoes was delicious. We also really like pelmeni and the sauce that they came in was bomb. And the last dish was vareniki with sour cherries with basil drizzled on top; which was an interesting to my taste buds – not Slavic though!
