Kachka was opened in Portland in 2014 by Bonnie and Israel Morales, and has since become beloved by diners worldwide. James Beard Award nominated Chef/Co-Owner Bonnie Morales and her team cook the food of the former Soviet Republics, including many dishes inspired by her heritage as a first-generation daughter of Jewish immigrants from Belarus. The warm hospitality and lively atmosphere at Kachka turns dinner into an event, fueled by a parade of dishes marked by deep and vibrant flavors such as dumplings, cured fish and pickled vegetables. Kachka serves over 50 different vodka selections, as well a list of house made infusions, craft cocktails, and a curated list of beer and wine with a focus on Eastern European producers.

First time ever having this kind of food and it was phenomenal. The service is top notch. The drinks were amazing. Everything was so well prepared! I highly recommend coming with a group to share everything. It was such a great experience. Will definitely be back.

This place deserves a Google review! My husband took me here for dinner. I’m a former USSR citizen who’s been in the USA for over 30 years now.
I was thoroughly impressed by the food and customer service. The atmosphere was amazing, with a great decor and music that brought back many memories from my childhood.
I ordered the rabbit in the clay pot with potato pancakes, while my husband opted for cabbage rolls. For dessert, we indulged in vareniki.
Derek was an absolute delight! He went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Despite not being from the country of origin, he did an outstanding job, always checking on us and providing valuable recommendations. Another girl was checking on our table to make sure no dirty dishes and water filled. I am beyond happy that this place exists!

Kachka completely lived up to the hype. The cuisine, inspired by the former Soviet Union, was incredible and it was so much fun trying both new-to-me dishes and classics like cabbage rolls and borscht. Our 5:30 reservation also let us catch happy hour, and the horseradish martini and Moscow mule were both excellent.
The space is loud, vibrant, and perfect for celebrating, and the staff was warm, friendly, and welcoming from start to finish. There is still so much on the menu I want to try, so I will definitely be back. A fantastic Portland spot all around.

Awesome restaurant full of personality that feels quintessentially Commie Bloc yet Portland at the same time. The workers all get paid profit sharing and really embrace the culture behind it!
With loads of tasy flavoured vodkas (big ups to the horseradish – try it) and drinks, you’ll have an array of options to get all Slavic to the best of your abilities.
The food is unique and incredible, with a focus on sharing multiple options in a large group.
If you’re in the area, I fully recommend as it not only tasty food but an experience beyond that in of itself!

The cod liver buterbrodi was rich, silky, and perfectly balanced.The Siberian pelmeni were such a nice surprise, and the grilled mackerel was perfectly juicy.
Everything was flavorful and comforting — would definitely come back!

I never had much exposure to eastern European food before but this place blow away my expectations! Everything sounds so simple with the ingredients but somehow just tastes so good and unexpected! Especially all the pickled veggies. Love the rabbit clay pot that was so delicious and creamy. I’ll be back multiple time to try everything! Probably one of my fav Portland restaurant

absolutely the best meal we had in portland. so rich and flavorful and fresh. from the dumplings to the breads to the liver mousse, so delicious. and the cocktails we had were excellent and interesting, and the eastern european lagers were crisp and refreshing. altogether a must. warm and fun and tasty. will definitely be returning.

Can’t say I’ve ever been to a Russian restaurant before but this seemed very authentic and well worth it! We got there early and were seated early to take advantage of happy hour. I didn’t love the wine (and should have known better than to get wine as it’s not what they’re known for) and they were gracious enough to let me switch to a cocktail which was excellent (bourbon with pine). We had a group of four and did family style with both specials. The fritters and dumpings were favorites, nothing disappointed!

You have to get the dumplings! I’ve had pan fried before but I had a friend recommend the garlic broth. 10/10 for tuorog and pelmeni and the fall mushroom salat! We decided to try something new like the chicken shila palvi versus getting our favorite…rabbit in clay pot. The dill flavor is very strong for the chicken, keep that in mind if you like/don’t like dill.
