At our Alton, IL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Went through the drive thru and ordered, wasn’t sure if anyone was going to ask what we wanted. Outside of building and driveway to window was kinda sketchy, some prices were good, others were kinda high like hush puppies were to high but they were good. Food was warm to hot except for the fries that were from last week we think. Food quality saved the whole trip, if not for the fries, dinner would have been a four. Going back to give it another try soon.

Absolutely abysmal. We used to eat here occasionally years ago. The restaurant was very obviously dirty, and the gentleman serving our food, had long dirty finger nails, was very unfriendly, and got much of our order incorrect. They told us they were “out” of an item we had ordered, and I had to request a refund or alternative.

We hadn’t been back until tonight, when I decided to give them another chance.

My wife and I went through the drive thru to order for ourselves and our children. The woman kept impatiently asking us if we were done ordering. I had to take orders for my family one at a time, and when I got to the kids drinks, I was just trying to get what my children wanted, and she very rudely, with a harsh attitude repeatedly kept saying “IT comes with a drink, SIR!”. I tried to explain I was unsure what drinks were available for kids, and she kept interrupting me, and became more impatient. Her attitude was unacceptable, and I just said, “okay, bye” and drove away.

Never again.

EDIT: From the sound of it, this store has had complaints regarding the drive thru attendant before. You are losing business, permanently, because of the lady working your drive thru. Something worth considering.

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time together. I got the chicken, fries, and hush puppies. The fries could’ve definitely been fresher and warmer but other than that my meal was really good. He got the seafood combo that had catfish, hush puppies, shrimp, and crab. He liked it all except the catfish. The lady who took our order in the drive-through, wasn’t very friendly and forgot our drink at the window, but other than that, I’ll go back for the food. Long John silvers is the better of the two for sure.

Food is fantastic. We drive over an hour to eat here. Staff is always friendly and it’s great to see that they employ disabled individuals. However, the dine-in area is never clean and the bathrooms are unusable, so I’d suggest the drive-thru.

For some odd reason, I am a fan of Fried Clam Strips. I don’t know how I got hooked on them, but when I see them on a menu, I gotta have them. Lucky for me, you don’t see them offered at that many places.

I drive by this Captain D’s everyday. It’s hard for me to go anywhere without passing by. It never occurred to me, that they’d have Fried Clams. Then one day as I was driving by, there it was on their marquee, “Fried Clams”. I was domed, it was lunchtime, so I pulled into the parking lot.

When I got inside, I saw a sign offering clams only as a side. I asked the young man working the counter if they had it as a meal. He replied, “yes”. So, I ordered a combo with fries and slaw. It also came with, two Hush Puppies.

It satisfied my clam strip craving, but it was rather flavorless. The Hush Puppies had the best flavor of all the items and the Cole Slaw was totally bland. If I return, I think I’ll just order their fish fillets.

I will say, the staff was friendly and professional. The young man was very patient assisting a senior lady with her purchase. He answered all her questions in a very pleasant tone.

Service was unfriendly. No smile, no thank you. Food was subpar and overpriced for what little was served. $4 for 10 little pieces of okra? Rediculous. Restaurant wasn’t clean

Captain D’s must be serving a cheaper fish! A couple of weeks ago we ordered our favorite batter dipped fish. It was dark and had a very mushy texture! I thought that they must have given us catfish instead of what we ordered. Last night we tried it again and I even made a point of saying that I did not want catfish. Well, what we got was dark, mushy fish again. I could hardly choke it down. Unless they start serving a whiter, flakier fish, I am done with Captain D’s.

Tried ordering but guy taking order at drive-thru kept hacking up lungs and coughing, tried asking about substituting because I’m allergic to something in my order, they refused saying I could just throw that away. So I’m paying for something I’m deathly allergic to and just throwing it away which is also throwing money away. I left avoiding getting very ill from whatever that person had that was coughing up their lungs everywhere. Don’t go here, you’ll risk getting very sick. Why they have someone this ill working with food makes no sense.

Check your orders before driving off. Husband ordered 2 meals. Charged $28.39. Discovered when he got home that he was charged for both but was only given one meal. Tried to call them 3 times. Recording said the number was not available at this time, try to call back later. He returned to Captain Dee’s with the one meal and receipt.
The manager was nice and instructed 2 fresh meals made.
He received two new meals, but did not look at what was in them until he got back home.
Both meals were incorrect.
He ordered mac & cheese and broccoli for my sides. Instead of broccoli, mine had green beans. Since it is Lent, I refrain from meat on Fridays. Their green beans had sausage in it.
He ordered a meal that was supposed to have 2 crab cakes in it. Instead of crab cakes he received a chicken strip.
The receipt was clear what was ordered.
The manager kept the receipt or I would post a photo of it.
We went ahead and ate our meals. It wasn’t worth the time and gas to go back again.
