Great burgers. And several types of burgers. I experienced the best sweet potato fires ever. Comes with brown sugar topping—skip the topping g to enjoy the fries. Be sure to know what size fries you’re getting. Large fries is a meal!! On my places to stop when I’m in chapel Hill again

Went there with high expectations after reading all the comments, but the food was average. The fries were good, but the burger could be bigger and better. The staff was really good and gelpful. Overall, it was a decent experience

Wow. Eating a Melly Mel with Cheerwine brought me straight back to undergrad with Al’s being a weekly indulgence back then. The taste and quality have not changed. The staff is wonderful too. Melly Mel isn’t fried anymore though, which makes me a little sad. If you have a pup in the car, don’t worry about stopping by. Al’s is very dog friendly with various spots to enjoy the burgers outside. There’s a reason why Al’s is a Chapel Hill staple- it’s the one place I recommend to people visiting from out of town.

I took a star away from the overall rating because they use MONARCH KETCHUP in house. If you’ve ever worked food service you’ll know Monarch. Their ketchup is probably the worst ever. The new bottles look a lot like Heinz bottles but don’t be fooled! Ask for takeout packs.

First time eating at Al’s Burger Shack, found it by accident. It was delicious. I got the Classic with a tea..that tea was on point too. It’s a drive for me but I plan to go back soon. Everybody was really nice and it was clean and I enjoyed seeing all of the state tags on the wall. I really enjoyed it.

Really an excellent burger place. The burgers are $8.5 and up, which is very expensive even in Chapel Hill, but they are of a higher quality than competing, cheaper burger joints. So it’s probably appropriate. Their milkshakes are mostly just Maple View ice cream, which is excellent, so I recommend the chocolate. I’ve found both of the cashiers there to be very friendly.

Al’s is a staple for us with consistently very good burgers which seem to us to have gotten better since Al Bowers sold the restaurants.

Al’s Burgers in Southern Village remains consistent in putting out exceptional burgers and fries. I tried a couple of hot dogs “all the way” and was surprised how good they were if you’re in the mood for these American classics, head to either of the Al’s locations. Still exceptional!
