Abuela Chona was amazing! We used them for a large luncheon for 80 people and they produced beautiful and fresh empanadas for our event. Really great with communication!

I tried the spinach empanada and the beef Abuela Chona empanada. The dough was tasty but a bit greasy. I thought the beef empanada was bland and did not have much spice. The spinach empanada tasted like a Greek spanakopita.

Great place for empanadas! Love going to the food carts with my friends and decided to try this place for the first time. They have a great selection of empanadas and they are all really yummy! I had the chicken empanadas and it can be a snack or a whole meal! It had great flavors and was made fresh when I got there. Their alfajor is also a great dessert option. The lady working the cart was really nice and really attentive. Would definitely go back.

Empanada forward menu offering decent food and flavors. As another review states, the dough was a bit greasy; to me it was too close to philo or other pastry to have the crispy element empanadas need to contrast the filling. The chimichurri was also a bit under seasoned, but paired well with the beef. Our favorite by far was the beef, the chicken was disappointing. It takes a good 15 minutes for preparation, which was longer than other carts if you want to eat at the same time as friends. Important to note the first time we came here they were out of every meat option by 6pm, hopefully this was a case of recently opening and not having all of the needs lined up.

The food is absolutely delicious—customer service needs significant improvement. We visited them in the Forest Grove food carts in September and ordered two plates. The lady indicated they had run out of fries. We went ahead and ordered the plate anyway, although it was charged at full price. Just today we came to visit the new food carts in Hillsboro, so we first checked in with the same lady, making sure she had everything in the menu. She chuckled nervously but confirmed she did. We ordered one plate and when we were about to order the other two, she said she only had enough fries for one plate and that we needed to wait about 20 min. for the rest. Second time we can’t eat fries; worth mentioning we were the only ones at the food cart area. We continue to order, and had to repeat the order 2 more times, as I had ordered an extra empanada in lieu of not being able to wait. When we all had ordered, the lady asked if we had cash as she needed to fix something in the order. We told her we only had our cards and that’s what we were planning to pay with. We had to repeat the order a third and fourth time because she assumed we were going to pay with cash and deleted the input in the machine. I was already upset because it was the second time we try to enjoy a full meal from this place, but they don’t have everything they offer to meet the demand; they try to get us to pay with a method that’s not available to us at the moment, and on top of everything, we had to go over the order several times, and the lady even lectured me not to get upset as she is trying to accommodate me. I don’t know what she is doing, but regardless of how many people show up, they should offer the full menu and have enough for everyone. Additionally, the plate is advertised of two empanadas, fries and an alfajor, which we never saw when we got home, and were still charged full price for everything. It would be a much better experience if the quality of the food matched how customers are tended to. Very disappointed.

I used to love eating at Abuela Chona at the BG food cartel. But the last few times I went they had been closed. Then last weekend they were gone!

I love the empanadas en abuela chona. The service is out of this world. Yeni is the best host, cooker and she went above and be on to explaining the food so I can choose the best food for my stomach. I love this place. I’ll definitely come back

Tony and Amy, owners and chefs of Abuela Chona, are wonderful folks with a fabulous product!! Our entire family loves the flavor and variety and the chimichurri adds great flavor. We were sad when they moved from Beaverton to Forest Grove, but NOW THEY ARE OFFERING FROZEN BAKER’S DOZEN! They are also offering delivery for free for the 4th of July weekend, something I hope, for their sake, is a one-time offer.
