My mom found a hidden gem in the food courts of the Premium Outlet Mall in San Marcos so I decided to come check it out. It’s so nice to find some good soul food without having to drive to San Antonio or Austin. The oxtails were delicious and flavorful. The braised cabbage was great too! I also enjoyed the catfish. Shhh, don’t judge me. I wanted to try everything! That was especially good with the homemade tartar sauce which seems to be a rarity at the catfish places I’ve been to. It was perfect, not too sweet.
I loved meeting Ted! He is so full of joy and provides excellent service! I’ll definitely be back!
Keep in mind that this is a food court in a major outlet mall so you will need to give yourself time to find a good parking spot.

Our family enjoys a good hole in the wall place to eat. I can’t reference the catering but we did give the dine-in a try. The food was OK. The chicken & waffles were good, although the waffle was not as crispy as I prefer, but the chicken did have a good flavor. The greens were more sweet than salty, again not my preference. The mac and cheese looked a little old and dry. The fried okra was ok. Pork chops were dry. The kids burger and fries were a hit. No restrooms but you can ask and they will take you back. The owner was really kind. Maybe we’d come back to try breakfast.

Been here twice now. First time, I had the chicken and waffles. It was good. I took home some pound cake. I think I got a discount because it was early Saturday morning and maybe it was left over from the night before, but it was good. Tonight, I got a fried chicken dinner with mac and cheese and baked beans. There’s a local bbq place that sets the standard when it comes to mac and cheese and baked beans, and this place does it pretty well. It seemed like maybe the chicken was a tad bit overcooked this time, but it was still good. I got a piece of oreo cake for dessert. It was so big, I couldn’t even finish it. This is a small place with maybe 6 tables and 14 seats, but they also do take out orders and catering. Everything is cooked to order, so give it some time, and I think you’ll like it.

Omg this is delicious. Me and my friend got the oxtail special that comes with 2 sides and the oxtail of falling off the bone it’s so tender and the greens and so delicious and so are the candied yams. I usually drive to Houston for good soul food. I’m glad I found somewhere closer. 10/10
Oh and also the owner and cook were super sweet and very personable! We will be back! ☺️

May 11, 2023: Read about this place in the community paper. Went for lunch and tried the greens, fried chicken and broccoli & rice casserole and the fresh tea. The meal was adequate. There appeared to be one person (the chef) doing everything (cooking, customer service and check out). Even though he was moving with a purpose the service was inadequate.

When we walked up to check out the menu, the owner introduced himself to us and with my permission gave my toddler a free icecream treat. The staff from the cook to the cashier, were so kind and welcoming. THE FOOD. I haven’t eaten a sandwich that fast in my life. I had the bbq brisket, and it was so tender and juicy. It fell apart in my mouth. All of our food was piping hot and super fresh. The sauce that came with it was delicious, and I appreciated the fact that it came in a separate container. Will absolutely be back with my family!!

First and last time at this place. First time I’ve seen a cordless drill sitting on a food prep kitchen area. Ordered breakfast plate. Potatoes felt old, cold, and not fresh. Tasted like they were refrigerated, pre-cooked then reheated. Toast was old and dry. Overeasy eggs were dirty from grill top and overcooked. Water was good. I was the only customer. It took me a while to get my order- I was just waiting and wasn’t attended to when I Walked in. I noticed several cameras in dining room but no greeting or response when I Walked in. Dirty cup on my table. They scored an A for cleanliness but not sure how that happened. Payment before getting any drink or food. They have false advertisements. Online prices are not prices in the store. I was wanting for assistance after they Brought the food but no help. They never came back to give a refill or check if everything was ok. I have some pictures I’ll post. Food on the floor. Dirty seats, dirty glass cabinet. I read other reviews about the floor being dirty and sticky. Someone put notes about them “taking care of it and thanks for your feedback”. But several weeks later nothing has been done yet.

Recently I ate here as another vendor was out of salad! What a delightful treat and meal I had! My order was the four vegetable plate and everything was prepared fresh. They even made me a glass of unsweet tea and steamed fresh cabbage for my entree! I was able to eat healthy and experienced phenomenal customer service. Thanks and I will be back!

I tried this place in the food court at the San Marcos premium outlets. I enjoyed everything I tasted. I visited with several sisters and we each tried something different and everything was on point. Authentic soul food, well seasoned and well prepared. I wouldn’t have expected this quality of food in a mall food court but here they are. I’m coming back next time I’m here for sure!
