My wife and I went here for the first time tonight after a friend’s recommendation. We were definitely not disappointed! Despite the moderate noise level (we got there right when they opened but it filled up quickly), atmosphere is on point and food was delicious. We were seated right next to the wood-fired pizza oven, was super neat to watch the pizzas being made! We had the cheesy garlic bread for an appetizer and for dinner I got the diavalo cavatappi and she had the spicy rigatoni vodka – all were very good. Highly recommend trying Za if you are in downtown Elm Grove. We will for sure be back!

Ok. Solid 4 out of 5. Food was good. Not going to knock your socks off. Sprout appetizer must not be popular because I’ve never seen that many sprouts served in any dish, ever, before. Salmon was mediocre. Pizza was very good for gluten free. Spaghetti with meatballs was good. Service was great. Hats off to our waitress. Awesome job. Parking was hideous. Prices were about what I expected for the area. You’re paying the New Berlin/Elm Grove premium for solid but unspectacular food. I’d come again, but in no rush.

First time here. It’s located right in the center of Elm Grove. Plenty of parking in their lot.

There was a group of four of us. It was a Tuesday night, and we had a reservation for 6:00. When we arrived, we were greeted by a couple of friendly hostesses and got our table right away (the place was about half full). Our server got to us right away with waters and menus. We ordered our first round of drinks, all of which were amazingly good. I highly recommend the Bourbon Paloma — it is probably one of the best that I have had.

We were doing lots of talking at our table, and we took a while to decide on our food choices. The server did a great job of giving us time, checking in every once in a while but not making us feel rushed (thanks, Sara!).

We ordered a couple of appetizers — calamari and meatballs — and they were both very good. The calamari was a good portion, with both rings and small whole squid. The breading was light and crispy, and it came out at the perfect temperature. I especially liked the combination of lemon aioli and marinara. I really enjoyed the sauce from the meatballs, spread on the toasted bread — that was delicious.

We finally decided on our entrées: Goat Pizza, Lasagna, Chicken Piccata, and Spicy Rigatoni Vodka. Everybody was super happy with their selection. All came out hot, flavorful, and in very good portions (leftovers for at least two more meals). My Goat Pizza was amazing. The hot honey drizzle was a nice compliment to the goat cheese.

The entire evening was excellent. The service was amazing — our server, food runner, and bartenders all did a great job. The food was excellent and memorable. If I had one complaint, it might be the noise level. Even though the place was half full, it was loud (we could still talk), but I imagine that with a full restaurant it would have been difficult (which some other people confirmed had been the case from an earlier visit).

Definitely made it on my “come back to” list.

First time here and I was impressed. Food was delicious and great portion sizes. A little pricey but the portion sizes make up for it. My server was probably the best part of it. Gabriel did a great job putting out specials, desserts and checking in on us. I’ve been a restaurant manager for over 10 years and I wish I had more servers like him. 5 stars all the way! Il be back.

I had such high hopes for this restaurant. We had a reservation for a special occasion and were seated promptly. Sadly, it took about 30 minutes for us to get drinks. We sat a good amount of time before seeing our server at all. In general, she was not entirely attentive and everything seemed to take a really long time. It was busy, so I could understand if that was the only issue. When the food came, it was great. Really, no complaints. What still has me shocked, is when the manager(assuming it was) came and politely, but basically asked us to leave. We spent a ton of money on bottles of wine, salads, apps and meals and frankly the reason we still were finishing our wine was because everything took so long , not to mention having to remind server of items requested etc. when we were approached I still had a full glass of wine when we were told to hurry it up. This just left a terrible taste in my mouth. I was supposed to come back to take my friend out for her birthday, I don’t believe I will return now.

What an Elm Grove Gem! We visited Za on a busy Wednesday night. Tables fully booked we took our chances and were greeted by the nicest front of house staff; and happily got bar seating right away—Taylor, our Bartender was awesome; knowledgeable and attentive, great customer service. The food was excellent and packed with flavor from the pizzas to the Chicken Caesar Salad. House wine was delicious as well. Loved the atmosphere and open concept with their glass overhead door/windows that really open the restaurant up to the outdoors. Highly recommend!

Really good Brussel sprouts, some of the best I’ve had in Milwaukee. Top 10 at least. Also it was a huge shareable portion for five guys as an appetizer.

The pizza is really good, the crust is perfect for a wood fired pizza. Thick enough to give it substance, but not over the top or extra chewy. The sausage, pepperoni, green pepper combo was very good. It was hard to stop at just half a pizza. I definitely wanted to eat the whole thing. A single pizza is easily enough for one hungry person, it likely is best shared between two people supplemented with an appetizer.

I would return!

Food was good, our server was nice. For a Wednesday night parking was not easy. Ended up parking down the street in the neighborhood. Also if you’re a big group they cannot separate the check so keep that in mind. They can take several cards however.

Za in Elm Grove is a gem! Stopped in for my daughter’s bday dinner, and everything we ordered was fantastic. We kicked off with the garlic bread–warm, crispy, and packed with flavor. The zucchini fries were another highlight: perfectly fried and not too greasy, with a satisfying crunch.

For our main dishes, we had the pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken alfredo. The pizza was just right with a crisp crust and plenty of fresh toppings. The spaghetti and meatballs were classic, hearty, and full of flavor–the sauce was rich, and the meatballs were tender and juicy. The chicken alfredo was creamy and comforting, with a generous portion of chicken that paired perfectly with the pasta.

We also received a complimentary piece of bday tiramisu for my daughter which was unexpected and delicious.

The service was friendly and quick, and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. LOVED the live singers! Whether you’re craving pasta, pizza, or just a good Italian meal, Za is a fantastic choice! We’ll definitely be back.
