At the entrance to the restaurant there was dog waste on the ground, which had clearly not been cleaned up. While it may not have been caused by the restaurant, it is still their entrance and should have been addressed.
When we were seated, despite several empty intimate tables for two near the front of the restaurant, we were walked past them and seated at the back of the restaurant in a larger table area, where it appeared that other guests of color were also seated. This immediately felt uncomfortable and disappointing. I had purchased a special dress for the evening, and it felt disheartening to be placed in what felt like an afterthought section rather than the main dining area.
The service was also very poor. After ordering drinks, we waited approximately 15–20 minutes for them to arrive. During that time, the server repeatedly came to the table asking for our food order, which was confusing because we had not even received our drinks yet. We explained that we would start with salads, but the server continued to push us to order our entrées before we had even begun our meal.
When the drinks finally arrived, my Cosmopolitan tasted strongly of anise or a similar flavor, giving it an unpleasant black licorice taste. My husband asked the server if the drink could simply be remade as a standard Cosmopolitan. When the replacement arrived, it tasted exactly the same. At that point we decided not to pursue it further. I instead ordered vodka with sparkling water, but what arrived was vodka with plain still water.
When our salads were finally delivered, the server immediately began asking again about our entrées before we had even taken a bite. It felt as though we were being rushed through the meal before it had even started.
Unfortunately, the food itself was also underwhelming. My husband ordered the salmon, which he said was acceptable, but he found the macaroni and cheese side dish to be very disappointing. I ordered the lobster tail. While the exterior tasted fine, the inside of the lobster had a tough texture and a fishy taste, which was not enjoyable.
The final frustration came with the bill. The restaurant had automatically added a 20% surcharge, but this was not clearly communicated to us beforehand. Because we were unaware of this, we left our usual 20% tip based on the total bill, effectively paying an additional 20% on top of the surcharge for what was honestly a very poor dining experience.
Overall, this was an extremely disappointing way to celebrate a milestone anniversary. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.
I’m writing this because I wish someone had shared this information with me before I made my reservation.
I booked ZPrime for Valentine’s Day because I wanted to treat my wife to a special evening. Like many couples, we were looking forward to a romantic dinner, great food, and a memorable night together. At no point during the reservation process was I told that the restaurant would be offering a mandatory prix fixe menu.
When we arrived, instead of being welcomed in for our reservation, we were stopped outside by two security guards who handed us a menu and informed us that due to high volume, the only option available was a prix fixe menu priced at $400 — and that didn’t include drinks or gratuity.
Standing there, finding this out on the spot, was both surprising and disappointing. It wasn’t about simply spending money — it was about the lack of transparency. Had we known in advance, we could have made an informed decision and planned accordingly. Valentine’s Day is already an expensive and meaningful occasion, and unexpected costs of that size can put a damper on what’s supposed to be a special night.
What hurt most was the feeling of being caught off guard. Clear communication ahead of time would have made all the difference.
I’m sharing this so that future guests can ask questions in advance and make sure they understand exactly what to expect before arriving. Special occasions deserve better preparation and honesty
The service was great .
