Every time we have eaten at this restaurant (and that has been many times), the food has been consistently tasty and the lady who takes our order has always been friendly and helpful.
We’ve taken others, and they, too, have enjoyed the food.
The lunch prices are especially reasonable. You get a choice of soup or an egg roll as the entree. Upon request they will bring a complimentary pitcher of hot tea.
Recommend.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. I only ever order the same thing every time so I can’t rate the entire menu. I love the Royal family meal and the fried dumplings. The place is very neat and clean with a classical Chinese atmosphere. They also have a bar. Looks like a great place for date night.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! When I walked in, I saw nobody and was not greeted. I thought this would be the same quality as “Yen Ching,” the restaurant that previously resided here that I frequented for many years, but the portions were much smaller, and having asked for extra orange peel with my orange chicken, they threw in a huge chunk of peel with no consideration for size or flavor. The chicken was overcooked and too crunchy, with inadequate sauce. I will not return to this “knock off” as it’s definitely not of the same caliber.

No… Yan Jing has ruined the Yen Ching restaurant. Yan Jing is not the same as Yen Ching, and never will be. New ownership? If so, the new owner sucks. They’ve turned a really good Chinese food restaurant into a restaurant trying to ride the reputation of their predecessor. The restaurant looks the same inside and out, however the food is horrid. My experience with the former Yen Ching has evolved from 30+ years of dining there, whether dine in, take out, or delivery. There’s only one Yen Ching restaurant left, in Henrico County. Go there.

These bad reviews can take their business elsewhere. I’ve been eating from this location for over 30 years. My body is made up of 50% chicken with mixed vegetables at this point. Yen Ching is dead? Long live Yan Jing. (PS I order this on Uber Eats to deliver all the way to the West End).

I ordered dinner after work before taking a 30-minute commute home. Once I ate my food the General Tso chicken was so hard, I couldn’t eat it. Very hard and un-chewable. When I called to voice my complain, I was told they’ve never had any complaints before, and I have to ask for it not to be crispy. I’ve never had crispy General Tso chicken before to know this. My co-workers and I had ordered a couple weeks prior for lunch and the chicken was not crispy. The in-person service during pick up was great. But the person who answered did not offer an apology, empathy, a resolution or anything. She was very defensive because I was unhappy with the food and because I waited 2-hours to call. I told her I was looking for a refund or replacement meal, nor was it offered.

Easily the best Chinese food I’ve had in over a year. Got some orange chicken and wonton soup. Divine.
(Edit): got it again and the food was equally amazing which doesn’t happen often imo.
(Edit 2 re: COVID): THANK YOU for not having Dine-in and taking excellent measures for safety. It doesn’t feel risky picking up food, especially compared to so many other places.
(Edit 3 5/31/21): THEY DON’T MISS. Also again thank you for maintaining distancing, takeout, and actually appropriate safety measures.
(Edit 4 5/2/2022): I swear they didn’t used to have orange beef on the menu before. I remember I asked for it once a while ago in the comments when ordering through the site and they called me to make sure they understood what I said lol. To whoever added it to the menu: I Love You. That’s why you go to the local spot!!!!!
(Edit 5 4/10/2024) I almost had a heart attack before I realize you just changed the name… Still the best Chinese food in Richmond

The food is always delicious, but this was the first time I actually ate inside the restaurant for lunch on a weekend. I ordered a coke with little ice and received this half-filled glass with flat coke about 20 minutes after ordering (and after being reminded about your forgotten drinks. We received our appetizer and food before out drinks, including water). When the coke arrived, there was no carbonation. The food was great, but the service was okay even though it wasn’t busy at all. However, the waitress was nice and pleasant. She replaced my coke with a can of coke instead because she said it was “better.” The lunch deals are always a great bargain, but I guess the drink, not so much.
