The food is amazing, very authentic and delicious. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is like a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant in Japan. We went for the lunch and order lunch menu set which is in a very good price! 19€ for set of 1 Main, 2 small appetisers, 1 small soup and a cup of tea.
However, the service of the place was a disappointment for both times we went. Since the day before we went, we tried to call the place for a reservation many times until the same day that we decided to just show up and bet on our lucks, but no one ever picked up!! So when we arrived and waiting in the queue for the restaurant to open. The Auntie who works there who we guess is one of the owners, called everyone in. We went in and told her we need table for 3, she asked for reservation and we told her the no one ever picked up the phone! She just openly being rude to us saying something in French about reservation. She immediately just walk away and ignore like we are not there. We were just left unattended and standing in the middle of that place lost ☹️ until another man who worked there tell us to go sit in the most in side area which look like a big room for big group to dine. He was pretty nice and attentive to us for Lunch.
Overall, will we go back? Yes we will because the food is amazing and it is for a good price but DO NOT EXPECT for a great service especially when the place is busy.

Quality of the fish is impeccable, the presentation of each cut is also incredibly inviting, for example with thick, plump slices of tuna sashimi. Also the selection of sushi a la carte is very interesting – mention of honour for the eel.
I don’t know if the interior design of the restaurant reflects an authentic japanese sushi, but it’s surely scenic and cosy with a narrow corridor dividing the dining tables from the open kitchen, giving the opportunity to customers to watch the sushi masters at work.

Absolutely amazing. The best authentic sushi experience you can have in Brussels. Especially for the ones who love sashimi. Friendly owners, cosy atmosphere, feels as if you’ve suddenly landed in Japan.

A place I’ve tried to visit several times, but even though there always seem to be free tables and enough space (despite the restaurant appearing small at first glance), you can only get a table with a reservation.
Unfortunately, the table we got was very cramped — it was hard to pass by, and to pull out a chair, we had to move the entire table. So, while the atmosphere and interior are authentic, the overall feeling was rushed and uncomfortable.
Despite that, I was expecting the food to be wow! — but sadly, it wasn’t. You can have a decent meal, but nothing special. I don’t drink alcohol, yet instead of the tea I ordered, I was brought sake.
I understand that many people enjoy salty flavors and soy sauce is used generously here, but I wish they would also consider those who need to limit their salt intake.
Overall — it was a long-awaited place I really wanted to visit, but it turned out to be a disappointment.

The place has very good location in a well frequented part of Brussels. It is neat and tidy, but a bit squeezed. Make sure you reserve. Take a moment to study the menu and be prepared before ordering. The menu is compact and clear. (I would suggest adding an English language version, though). Still, there is a large variety of tasty Japanese staples, pick something and don’t try to ask for customisations: the kitchen is small and the cooks are working at full steam. The waiters are friendly, but be patient and order clearly (best in French). For large groups (8, max. 10), there is a cozy private parlour upstairs.

If you’re searching for an authentic Japanese dining experience in Brussels, Yamayu Santatsu might be just what you’re looking for. This well-regarded restaurant is known for its genuine atmosphere, with Japanese chefs and staff who bring a true taste of Japan to the heart of the city.
I often go there for lunch, when they offer a variety of daily specials at reasonable prices. These lunch sets typically include fresh sushi, sashimi, tempura, or grilled fish, all served with rice, miso soup, and side dishes—perfect for a satisfying and balanced meal.

Can be a slightly overwhelming experience at first and I recommend booking on busy days but the moment you sit down and are served the platter of sushi you would never want to go anywhere else in Brussels for Japanese food ever AGAIN. Highly recommend !

Unbelievable place. It’s mastered Japanese kitchen. There are options to seat on the regular table or right in front of the kitchen so your can see and talk to the chef. It’s unique experience.
Quality and quantity of dishes is also amusing. It’s such a pleasure to taste sea food with perfect cuts.
I would recommend this place for all.

Spectacular, authentic Japanese food. My favourite restaurant in Brussels. Ignore the negative reviews, this is some of the finest food you can eat in one of the finest cities for gastronomy in Europe. Yes, the Maitresse De is terrifying, but she runs an extraordinary ship.

This restaurant was a pleasant discovery! Once you enter, you are welcome by the servers in Japanese. The decor of it, follow the typical Japanese restaurant, giving you the chance to immerse yourself in the experience. We went during lunch time and the place was packed, nevertheless the service was fast and professional. The food was delicious, very faithful to the traditional food we had in Japan. Sushi was really fresh, keep in mind, that they put wasabi in it. Tonkatsu was my favourite.
