Ordered take-out and it is a 30 minute trip, one way to get to Yamato. Our total bill was ~$66 and we tipped ~$13. The soft shell crab roll was $8.99 uncooked and disgusting. We could not identify if there was in fact soft shell crab in the roll. Most of the roll was “raw” panko flakes and the the entire roll was ice cold. We were also charged $1 for spicy mayo we did not order. We called to ask for a credit and were willing to share pictures to show what we were talking about. We received 0 concern from the manager there, were told we have to bring it back if we wanted it credited and were told they were not interested in seeing pictures. The rest of the food was just OK. I am not driving an hour to return takeout worth $8.99. In fact, the time invested in this review is definitely getting the word out to never eat at Yamato and is a principle, not a request for a refund now. We will never eat there again and I suggest you dine with caution if you do

This is the best sushi in the Valley. Sashimi cuts were thick and fresh. The special roll section was plentiful and the appetizer selection was large.

Really unfortunate that this was such a let down. I’ve had seriously good luck in Dunlap but not today. Firstly I was greeted with a lack of any attention and I have empathy for my server as she looked over worked and exhausted, but the food was really the downfall. My entree was mediocre at best, I understand this is TN and will not be fully authentic but it was really just grilled chicken and rice with some steamed vegetables. The Pork dumplings were great which compensated for my flavorless and really pathetic miso soup that settled in minutes served luke warm. The restaurant itself is pretty dull but the food should really be the highlight of any restaurant. Tipped my waitress 20 and although she didn’t seem thankful my experience was far from her fault but the chefs. Certainly wouldn’t recommend and I do the business makes a comeback or I caught the restaurant on an off day and it improves, I think Dunlap is a great spot for a Japanese steak house.

Our waitress tonight was amazing. I never caught her name but she was super sweat and gave us great service. Food was priced well and came out fast. If we are ever in the area again we will come back.

My first time was recently. I liked their chicken&steak with somewhat plain fried rice. Egg rolls were average. Entry soup was OK. I wish the interior was more upscale, it’s not bad, but their prices are up there. Overall, my foid was good and I would order it again.
Crab Rangoon was really good!
Not the place for a family meal with kids. Good place to bring your girlfriend.

This is the only place I can find in the area that still serves soft shell crab. There’s is lightly breaded and just.. delicious. They have a huge sushi menu with pictures. I love that I can actually see what it looks like before I order it. Everything we’ve ever ordered has been really good. Highly recommend the Sirloin and shrimp hibachi. A+

As far as service… there’s usually only one lady working tables, checks, AND the phone. People who are in a hurry don’t see or understand this. Give her a break. Order a pot of tea and chill. It’s not fast food.

i was there a few weeks ago with my wife. the food was good but the chinese lady, im assuming the owner. yelled at the employees and made it very unpleasant to be at. she was very loud and you could hear her through the entire resturant.

Me and my girl just ate here. Between me and her we have probably eaten at 20+ sushi restaurants from Tennessee to Arizona. This place is easily in my top 5. Service was polite and quick (quick taking into account the sushi is made to order and not sitting out on ice in the back). The food was all top notch. Prices are insanely fair for the quality you get. Compared to sushi places in Chattanooga. Atmosphere is peaceful but lively. Overall this place is worth going to. Will be a repeat eater.

(We had “The love boat” with the “pirate roll” $80 meal for 2 people which at other places would have been closer to $100.)

We have had 3 to go orders and 3 sit ins so far. Service is somewhat slow but that’s to be expected since they just opened. Togo orders have been 100% correct. Dining in we have had to request missing elements such as wasabi and soy. Wait times fluctuate but they are improving.
