I went to the VIP Diner for breakfast and I hadn’t been there in years. I was pleasantly surprised by the updated decor and the different dining sections. They even have open mic and karaoke nights from what the staff person told me. It was a really nice upgrade. I had scramble eggs, pork sausage, home fries and a toasted English muffin. Very tasty. The eggs were done and fluffy and my home fries were cooked just as I requested. Crispy on the outside fluffy underneath. The sausage was cooked perfectly, well done but moist on the inside. I didn’t see any pastry displays like they use to have. The bathrooms were old school and there is a sign on the door that they only have air dryers no paper towels. It just so happens that I was there on the specials day. Only paid $9.62 for the entire breakfast. Good staff and they kept asking me if I wanted my coffee to be refilled. And I gladly said yes. I’ll be going back more often. Parking is ample and free.

The VIP Diner was a favorite of my Dad’s after he relocated from Queens NY to Jersey City in 1999. We would sometimes go to the diner when I visited. He passed away in 2007. I personally am not one who eats out, but when I am at the condo here on business and my Mom and stepdad come out to visit with me from Brooklyn, we have a meal at VIP as we did yesterday. I have always enjoyed whatever I’ve ordered and have only had positive experiences with the staff. My short stack pancakes were delicious. My 6 year old great-nephew devoured his eggs and 2 sausages. Mom ate the entire fish sandwich and did not once judge it. Mom is a cooker and will judge other people’s cooking. Lol! My Stepdad enjoyed his classic burger and fries. Me and nephew also enjoyed some of those fries.
I will say the prices are higher, but that is everywhere. And because I do not eat out regularly, the price increase probably seems higher to me than it would to someone who has seen prices gradually increase. I am not including crazy post pandemic increases.

The parking space a the amazing mural behind it was excellent, sadly the inside of the dinner lacks creativity, seem like they haven’t remodel the place since the 80 or 90’s felt like walking to a cheap Motel mirrors everywhere, the seat are functioning but turn apart the wood need work and another coat of paint they could use ligths, the place was deserted the menú looks like it has never updated all pictures they’re blury. The menu is simple affordable but nothing extraordinary we order appetizers and lunch the prices were good but the lack presentation. The waiter keep staring while we eat from the kitchen doors it was uncomfable, the disco fries were flooded with gravy and we found hair and eye laches swimming in it, disgusting. Onion soup was salty but enjoyed, chicken tender were good size, the burger was medium when I requested med well, the lasagna good portion size for med size person but the sauce was watery and tasted pass his time let’s hope I don’t get sick.
It will me my first and last experience eating in this place. I left them 15% tip but this place needs work bad I don’t recommend this place to eat the ,place in front have better food.

Historic diner but without the knowledge of how to make a good omelet. Overcooked, dry, and had NO salt. Bathroom is horrific and staff has no interest in proving good service. Long wait times for bad food. Jersey has plenty of amazing diners to visit. This is NOT one of them

Greeted at the door, the moment I walked in. It wasn’t busy, so that makes sense. Was offered a window seat which was lovely, meal and a view is always a plus. Ordering felt kind of rushed but I feel like they just because they don’t have a busy day, so understood. Food isn’t something I would write home about. Fries weren’t that hot, gotta season it yourself.

Cute not so little diner in the heart of Journal Square. I loved how cozy and old fashioned American this place was.
Their food was good, nothing super special about it just good old fashioned American breakfast.
They even have a mirror art of NYC skyline and it has the twin towers in it, good old fashioned American!

One of the worse restaurants I have been to. One star is too much for this place. The sword fish we ordered was smelling and very dry.. definitely frozen almost 1 week old. Chicken was unbreakable. They were running out of most of the things. We also ordered lasagna which we returned as there was lot of water around it as it was just out of microwave so we returned it. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We’ve been there for lunch/dinner and let’s say it was okay.
Breakfast and pies/cakes seemed good but our lunch meals were kind of disappoint.
We were 5 people with 5 different meals and nothing was really tasty.
One exception: The pastrami sandwich was great!
Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad but the food was just no quality. Let’s say the taste of the food was okay.
But of course everybody has his own taste so go and make you your own opinion 🙂
Besides that, the ambient was nice, staff was alright and the toilet was there but not great.

The Famous Cheesecake isn’t so good anymore!
It didn’t have that nice creamy vanilla taste like it always had. I was gonna get another one this week, but I canceled it. I will not be buying them anymore. It’s just an ordinary cheesecake. It’s $80. It should be delicious. I bought it to a family party and no one really liked it.
Very disappointed !!!! It was always one of our favorites
