Stopped in for dinner. This was my first time here. Even though I have lived in Durham for many years this place was not on my go to list. As soon as we walked in it was very empty with only one other family dining and this was on a Saturday night at around 6 or 7pm. The did have a booming take out business going. Well as soon as we sat down the SUPER NICE server asked us what we wanted to drink. Now please note this is a SUSHI restuaunt. I asked for a hot SAKE, the server told me they did not serve any alcohol. HUMMM I said to myself and outload I said your kidding. She was not, they do not serve any alcohol. No wounder they were not busy. A SUSHI resturaunt near DUKE UNIVERSITY and no beer or wine even. WOW. Well now to the food. The sushi was pretty good not the best but good. The tuna was a bit grainey and the whie fish or butter fish was a bit dried out. The best roll we had was the rainbow. My final thoughts are these, Service was SUPER, EXCELLANT, and fast. I would have enjoyed SAKE with my SUSHI but “oh well.

Unbelievably bland food with disinterested staff (the person who took my order seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else in the world but there). I ordered the pad see ew and vegetable fried rice to go and both were flavorless and dull. The noodles were over cooked to the point of mush with no flavoring at all. The tofu tasted like and had the consistency of having been microwaved. The vegetables seem to be cut as an afterthought with the broccoli stalks being so large and awkward I ended up using my fork and fingers to break them apart. The spring rolls were mostly hollow, but at least they had SOME flavor. This was all very disappointing as I had been craving Thai food for days and this was what I ended up with. We couldn’t even finish one portion and ended up throwing it all out. Total waste of money ($32). This was my first and LAST time eating there.

Not going back. We were just starting to eat our sushi dinner shortly after 9PM when they began mopping the floor with an extremely strong smelling cleaner. Eating sushi with that smell in the air resulted in a repugnant dining experience. We asked for to go containers, packed it up ourselves trying to get out of there.

Vine Sushi used to be our go-to Thai place, but unfortunately, the quality has been inconsistent since COVID. There have been instances where the noodles were significantly overcooked, and the sushi occasionally had an unusual taste. We kept trying to assume it was a one-time thing but it had happened enough that we are taking a break.

The sushi deal is fantastic. It’s BOGO for their specialty rolls and they have a 2/$9 and 3/$12 for their regular rolls. We bought four specialty rolls and three rolls for $43.00 as take out. They gave a hearty size of miso soup with the 3/$12 deal. But the blue Hawaii was by far one of the most flavorful sushi I have ever had!!

We got take out at about 12:30 in the afternoon.Very fast service, good fresh sushi. They received a 9.6 health rating 2/4/20. Very good! My wife and I got the Sashimi Lunch,Fire Work(special roll) and the Pineapple Fried Rice. All were very good. We eat sushi often and the Only 2 things that could be improved upon:

My partner and I have loved Vine for years. Just ordered and LOVED the dinner for two (pictured) last night. We are always treated well and prices are reasonable. Always ask for the himachi kama… it’s amazing!
