Simply put: this is the epitome of Wisconsin dive bars. The absolute best of the best, on every single level.
New in town? Go. They’ll take great care of you. You’re a regular? They’ll never forget your order or leave you hanging.
The staff are amazing – welcoming and entertaining. They’ll joke with you and make you feel like family.
The food is even better than the staff. Their burgers are second to none; char-grilled and very flavorful. The fish fry is legendary but the hidden gem is their $2.50 jumbo shrimp, which are served on Tuesdays, a la carte. Holy smokes is that shrimp awesome. They’ve got to be like size 4-6…
Just do your self a favor and check out Villa Tap. It’ll become your new favorite, guaranteed.

My mom was visiting from Georgia. Also my brother and they really wanted good lake fish something hard to find down in north Georgia. We came across this place on Google. The reviews were amazing so we decided to try it. Customer service over the phone was amazing. The owner himself was taking the calls for the fish dinners the day before. He and staff were very kind and very accommodating. The food was incredible. Probably some of the best fried fish I’ve had in my 33 years of living. Baked potatoes the size of my 2 year olds face! Definitely will be back again and again! Thanks Chico!!!!!

Let me start by saying that the OVERALL RATING of 1 STAR is because of (1) particular bartender which has prompted this review.
Food – Excellent (5 Stars)
Service – Other than (1) bartender (5 Stars)
Atmosphere – (4 Stars)

Everyone except for (1) bartender is great. This (1) particular Bartender on a Power Trip (BoaPT).
I give “Service” NO SCORE as it wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the exceptional staff and workers of the Villa Tap. Although, in my comments above I rated the Service other than 1 person as a 5.
This is an issue as I always eat at the bar and have generally eat there on Fridays except for when I’m out of town. I started going to VT in end of May 2025 and have been going there for about 6 months…(estimate) and last night was the last straw with this (BoaPT). This hasn’t been an isolated incident with particular bartender. I will only speak for myself and not for what others have observed. I’ve been to the VT about 20 times and spent around $80 per visit for an estimated $1600 during that period of time.
This is my 1st NEGATIVE review of service in over 35 years of going to restaurants and dealing with bartender’s eating at the bar. It NOT because I waited on a drink or food. It is truly unfortunate for myself, because the food and service all except for
(1-BoaPT) is very nice.
I work hard for my money working with Medical Professionals and Staff in a service roll and (I WOULD NEVER TREAT A CUSTOMER THAT WAY)
I have thought about this post now for a couple hours…and vacillated on whether or not I should post. In the end I think it my post only draws attention to (1) and not the whole, but this (1) has ruined my experience at VT and the only way I can speak up is through this review and where I spend my discretionary dollars.

Ole School family Pub with a great vibe and Amazing Friday fish fry. One of the best Ive had. Dont be in a hurry if going for fish. Enjoy a couple cocktails while it cooks. Its worth the wait. Diverse crowd, come early they run out. Cheers!

This spot is precisely what you expect, although the parking lot seems to hold more cars than the bar holds people. I’m not doing the math right, maybe. Very friendly bartenders with lots of beers on tap. I learned the pro tip later to order your fish fry in advance so it’s ready when you show up. We were too late for walleye – next time, but the code had a lot of flavor and was crispy on the outside and tender inside – chef’s kiss. The perch had more texture, but also delightful and more subtle flavor. We need a second helping

Local spot, no frills, super nice service. I went for the Friday fish fry and had the walleye. It was really good! Crispy breading and fish was moist and tender. Surprisingly good Coleslaw. Also came with baked potato and a roll. Good value!

Great food but it’s very busy and chaotic in for Friday night fish fries. They don’t take table reservations but will have your food ready at the desired time and recommend getting there an hour or more before your scheduled time to find a seat on your own.

Second visit here for food. Previous Friday fish fry was great. Today was bacon cheeseburgers-also excellent. Cook came over to ensure we were happy and bartender was also attentive. Bottom line: great people and great bar food at fair prices.

What I had been hearing is true, one of the best fish fries in town. Staff was helpful and friendly on a packed Friday night. Their timing/reservation system works well to avoid any long wait times. Breading on the fish was some of the best I’ve ever had, more crispy crunchy breading. I’ll be back soon, too good not to.
