Best donuts in north county! Can get a little chaotic in the morning or even in the afternoon so come prepped with a little patience and grace and I promise you won’t be disappointed! Parking can also be a pain but a spot usually opens up sooner or later – at least during SD local summer. Don’t sleep on the cookies and pastries – they’re equally as delicious!

VG’s doubled the prices of their donuts – for years started at $1, but something changed July 2025 to Feb 2026: now they start at $2, I got one dozen donuts and two cinnamon rolls = $56. So they are now gourmet donuts…and taste great..but I won’t go back. I think $30 would be fine…over $50, too much. Also there was no line at 9 a.m. on a Sunday…so I think everyone knows but me.

This is a very popular bakery and donut place. Folks I know who grew up since the 1970’s near by said this is the best place around.
I’ve been here about a dozen times over 30 years and it’s been good. Some days there is a long line.
But in general it seems like a regular donut bakery.

We used VG donuts to have a dessert table and a small wedding cake during our wedding. The dessert table was a huge hit and everyone loved them. They have a ton of options to choose from and their ordering process was super easy and straightforward. The wedding cake was the best cake I have ever had in my life and we are planning on buying more cakes from them in the future!

My family has been coming to VGs since I was a kid. They have the best donuts around! Prices have gone up significantly and the service at the counter can be a hit or miss but the donuts are always fantastic. Bring Cash! Naturally, we chose them to cater the desserts and cake for our wedding last year and they were fantastic. We had an awesome array of donuts, cookies, brownies, and had the red velvet cake, and marble cake with oreo filling. They were all a hit! I’m so glad I was able to have them as part of our special day. The catering team was great to work with and super responsive, and helpful. They even let you take cake home to try out before ordering, which was super fun! Thanks VGs for being a part of our family for over 40 years and for making our day sweet!

If you’re going here around the holidays make sure to go super early in the morning because they sell out of everything except some whole cakes around 11am. I wanted cinnamon roll donuts but they were sold out so I got some other donuts and cupcakes.
They also have special cronuts Friday-Sunday only.
Parking lot is tiny and impossible to find parking so I found street parking nearby.
They also have an outdoor patio seating if you want to eat there.

First time here and I will definitely be back! One of the best maple bars I’ve had in San Diego- the donut is fluffy, soft, airy, and overall delightful texture with the perfect amount of maple icing. Just dreamy! The blueberry buttermilk bar was solid for an old-fashioned cake donut. I’ve had better Mexican wedding cookies (they were a little on the dry side). I can’t wait to return and try some more baked goods. Nice selection of donuts, cakes, cookies, cupcakes. And friendly service, too!

VG’s made our wedding cake and desserts for our wedding at Twin Oaks Garden in San Marcos in July 2023. The cake and desserts were so delicious and beautiful! I highly recommend the white cake with fresh strawberries and Bavarian cream, the mini eclairs, and the chocolate dipped macaroons. So yummy! We also had VG’s make us custom sugar cookies as guest favors and they turned out perfect. The tasting/sample cakes we tried were also very generously sized! The ordering and delivery process was super smooth. I’m already excited to order our anniversary cake!

Best donuts in Cardiff for sure and quite the competitor in the North County region. I love the flavor. The selection is to the point but donut holes are special request so keep that in mind. The staff is great and management deserves a raise. For sure. Will be back!
