We went around 5 on a Saturday night. It was busy but they moved through the line quickly. Someone grabbed my order by mistake so they had to remake it, and they were very apologetic. By the time we got there they were already out of turkey and macaroni. We tried all the other meats available. The pulled pork was good. Brisket and ends were slightly dry compared to some other bbq places we’ve tried. Pulled chicken was the least favorite of the family. The green beans and baked beans were delicious. Cheddar potatoes and cornbread were just okay. There are a few seats at a bar to dine in, but that’s it.

Just tried their chicken wings…delicious! Perfectly cooked, not dried out, cooked all the way through, nice crispiness on the skin. Sauce wasn’t needed, I got it on the side. Only thing I needed more of was a little more smoke flavor.

We went here and the customer service was great the food was hot and fresh. However I’m from the south and the bbq I’m used to tastes differently than this, the ingredients and preparation of the food is completely different than what I’m used to. I got the ribs and they seemed under cooked as I said before different ethnicities cook differently. So I wouldn’t say the food was nasty, but it was new to me and you just have to approach it with an open mind!!! Both meals were $22 combined appropriate for bbq I guess . The meat was under cooked and not done , the mac n cheese tasted like over cooked noodles with cheese on top would not return .

The food is always delicious, one of our favorite in the city! But I don’t understand why they make it so hard to do business with them. They don’t accommodate online ordering, their website doesn’t even work. When you try to call, the phone is always busy and their hours are so random that you have to catch them at exactly the right time and that’s if they’re not out of everything. I love Velvet Smoke, I wish I could help figure out how to help them do more business!

They have really good brisket. Juicy, Smoky stands up to sauce, tender. The ribs and wings Also set a high standard. Place is clean easy access and unpretentious. Staff friendly and visibly engaged. good value, lots of food, side dishes are generous. . Feels safe. We ordered take-out. It was hit and we’ll packaged.

It’s a take-out only place. The ribs were melt in your mouth and very meaty.

If I could give more than FIVE stars, I would! The brisket at Velvet Smoke is the best I have ever had, bar none! Pulled pork is delicious! Mac and cheese is amazing too. Great customer service for everyone. I ordered at the counter and my order was ready quickly. Velvet Smoke is worth the drive! Very limited seating, but it was still hot when I got home.

I unfortunately had to come back to edit my review. After giving velvet smoke several more chances to impress, it has underwhelmed. The limited hours are what they are (Thursday-Sunday for an average of 3 hours…seriously). But with such few hours, at least they’ll have plenty of food available, right? Nope. Almost from the time they open they will be out of numerous staples of their (and really any bbq restaurant) menu items. Their burnt ends are great but almost certainly unavailable. Ribs? Same. Today it was pulled pork. Literally only chicken, turkey and wings were all they had 90 minutes (halfway) of the 3 hours they were open. I can’t bring myself to do 1 star since their food is good when available, but I’ve given up on trying to support this business that can’t deliver any kind of convenience (hours) or consistency (available items). It’s a shame as White Oak has very few barbecue options anymore.
