Honestly have hesitated for YEARS to leave a glowing review because, shamefully, I’m afraid that more will discover this hidden gem as a result. This is truly the best sushi in Sarasota. The staff always treats us like family and often remembers our orders so we feel like we’re at a relatives home just enjoying our favorites. Everything is always so fresh, and so packed with flavor it’s like an explosive experience of fresh deliciousness. You won’t be disappointed, but also don’t go. OR ELSE. We love our perfect, delicious, and intimate space.

I’m honestly not sure why this place gets so much hype. Overall, the experience was average at best. As sashimi lovers, we were disappointed by the limited sashimi selection, with not much variety to choose from. The rolls also felt very similar to one another, lacking creativity or distinction.
While the fish itself was fresh and the dishes were visually very well presented, the overall quality and flavor just weren’t there. Everything looked beautiful on the plate, but the taste didn’t live up to the presentation or the reputation.
Considering the high prices, the experience felt underwhelming. For a restaurant with so much buzz, we expected more depth of flavor and a stronger overall execution. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for us.

OK, the best sushi spot in Sarasota, FL is no more… see my prior review history for location, sadly it’s gone forever. Now, moving up a slot, is Utamaro Sushi Bar located downtown Sarasota. Been going here for years, always exceptional, now 100% the go to place in SRQ for sushi.
Note this review is for take-out, holiday party at the office, everyone but the CEO loves sushi, but he stepped up and tried Yellow Tail, LOL, and loved the cooked orders.

Utamaro Sushi in Sarasota is a must-try! Every visit is an absolute delight. From the delicious food to the impeccable service and presentation, it consistently ranks as my top choice for sushi. My personal favorites are the Sarasota and Godzilla rolls, as well as the Volcano. The service is always exceptional—fast, efficient, and incredibly friendly.

A charming, small, quiet local spot with a varied menu. The quality is consistently good (been there at least a dozen times in the past couple of years) with nice sake choices as well. Service is always good and staff and chefs are welcoming. Parking has become more more challenging lately, but definitely worth the trouble.
