The sushi rolls were quite large and beautiful to look at! It tasted fresh and so flavourful. I was very impressed with our meals. There were so many tantalizing items on the menu…I will need to go back to try them. I was even noticing the delicious and beautiful meals at the table next to us. Every dish from the scallop roll to the salmon sushi and chicken udon was amazing. The complimentary birthday cake was a lovely surprise and made us feel very special.

We had a great experience at Uni Modern Japanese Restaurant. We ordered the lunch box with 8 pieces of sashimi and a spicy tuna roll, along with two draft beers. Everything was incredibly fresh, delicious, and well presented.
Special shoutout to our server Wenny — she was very friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. Her warm, contagious smile truly made our visit even more enjoyable.

Our server Koto was super cheerful and made us feel welcome. Loved talking to her.
The dining room has big windows with a great view of the harbor.
The food was great. I ordered
Beef Teriyaki Bento, and got some sushi for my group. Creative and tasty of course. The dishes were presented so beautifully, I almost didn’t want to ruin it LOL!
After lunch, the chef, Digpol, came out to check on us and offered us Tempura Ice Cream on the house. Delicious !
Couldn’t have had a better day at Uni, thanks to the wonderful staff.

We wanted to go check out Toro, but there was an hour wait without reservations, so we tried out Uni instead. Overall, not a bad experience, but the sauces are sometimes too overpowering and wasn’t very sophisticated in taste. Rice could use some improvement in firmness. As always, I got some BC specialities, such as BC spot prawn and wild pacific salmon because we can’t really find these in Ontario. I personally prefer Nubo over this.

Pressed Sushi: Samoa Oshi (aburi salmon with homemade miso aioli, fresh sliced jalapeño) $18

I highly suggest going when it’s not too busy so you can truly enjoy the experience. The service was great and the food was really good—the tempura rolls were crispy and flavorful, and the cocktails were mixed to perfection. Honestly, there was nothing negative to say about the meal itself!
Just a heads up: if you’re planning to go on a Friday or Saturday night, definitely plan in advance. It gets crowded, and parking nearby is very tough to find, so give yourself extra time. Will definitely be back soon!

Came here for lunch on a rainy day. The restaurant is very spacious and clean. Min, our server, was wonderful, attentive, and accommodating. The food was also delicious. The lunch sets are a good deal as they come with soup, tempura, 2 pieces of a roll, fried spring rolls, salad, and some chicken. If we go back to Victoria, I will definitely visit again!

Uni Modern Japanese absolutely blew me away! From the food to the service to the atmosphere – everything was incredible. The bao bao bao buns were hands-down the best thing I ate on my entire trip – soft, flavourful, and unforgettable. Every roll was fresh, creative, and bursting with flavour combinations that still have my mouth watering! The restaurant itself is stunning – modern, elegant, and warm – and the staff were so friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Truly one of those rare spots where everything is just perfect. Can’t recommend it enough!

Excellent food and service. We both ordered one of the lunch specials. I ordered the aburi salmon special which came with a huge (and tasty) assortment of sides. The fish was very fresh and the side dishes were delightful. And they appear to have a nice selection of Japanese craft beer. I will definitely be back!
