The service was absolutely outstanding and truly elevated the entire experience. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations without being overbearing. Combined with the stylish, upscale atmosphere, UMAMI is a must visit in Cancun. I would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional Japanese food.
Overall a great dining experience, just don’t have too high expectations for the food.
Now the ambiance and design of the restaurant was also something else. It really felt like you were stepping in to Japan, it was classy, elegant, and peaceful
If you’re looking for a place to eat while you’re here, no brainer, I’d recommend Umami every time.
As part of the all inclusive, we could only select one dish from the 5 categories:
1. entrees and salads
2. soup and noodles | breaded and fried
3. rice | sashimi | temaki and conos | nigiri sushi
4. maki mono and rolls | specials
5. dessert

1. I’ve tried the seaweed salad and akami salad, but the akami salad was definitely the better choice. It comes with seared tuna and thick slices of avocados and tomatoes.
2. I’ve tried the fried octopus, fried chicken kaarage, and miso soup. The fried octopus was tough and hard to chew. The kaarage wasn’t juicy as I’d like but it was okay. The best one of this section was definitely the miso soup. It was hot and flavorful with scallions and seaweed. But I only had one tiny cube of tofu, so I wish there were more.
3. For this section, I highly recommend the spicy tuna hand roll 100%. I loved it so much that I got it two nights in a row. It is filled to the brim with the spicy tuna!
4. I had the salmon skin special (2 pc) and kani roll (8 pc). The kani roll was a glorified california roll, still delicious.
5. We had the choice between two desserts: a yuzu pastel and a clear cake. The yuzu one had an immediate flavor profile, but I preferred the mitsumami because it was not very sweet. It still had a lychee flavor, so it wasn’t flavorless. Both came with a small white chocolate with the restaurant name.
Special shout out to the staff: Uriel, Yensy, Nadia, Chutima, Carlos, Victor, Joshua, and Ivonne. Thank you for treating us so well.
We went two times during our stay. First time for teppanyaki and second time for the sushi bar.
Teppanyaki was more for entertainment rather than the food.
If you are looking for a quality meal, then I’d skip the teppanyanki and go for the sushi bar. Feels like you are eating sushi in Japan. You get to sit right in front of the chef and watch each piece of sushi being prepared for you. The experience of hear, sight, smell, touch, and taste is an awesome experience!
