With high-quality made-to-order burgers, a ‘come as you are’ environment and a strange reverence for Chuck Norris, there’s no place else quite like Twisted Root. Way back before ‘gourmet burgers’ was a thing, Chefs Jason Boso & Quincy Hart decided to build a restaurant around half-pound, fresh ground burgers with a menu that allowed customers to build their own burgers with a list of crazy and inventive toppings. The two met in culinary school, after jobs in stock brokerages and telephone line repair. After paying their dues working the line at The Four Seasons & Pappas Bros, Jason & Quincy finally opened Twisted Root Burger Co. in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas in 2006. Twisted Root appeared on the second season of Diners, Dr
Gourmet burger chain with beef, turkey & vegan options (some offer game meats), plus spiked shakes.

Greeted upon entry, and the vibe definitely gave off something you’d expect from a place Guy Fieri would visit—or even own. It has a cool retro-industrial style atmosphere that felt fun and casual.
I was dining with one other person, and we ordered at the counter with Shawn C., who was awesome—efficient, upbeat, and had great customer service. Thank you, Shawn!
I ordered the Big Tex burger, hand-punched fries, a fountain drink, and a side of peppercorn ranch. I was told burgers are cooked medium well by default, but mine came out more medium, which was a little disappointing. The burger and fries overall were still 8/10—flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. I’d just ask for my burger to be cooked a bit longer next time (personal preference). I also tried the watermelon tea, but that unfortunately missed the mark for me, so I swapped it for something else.
One thing to note: the burger and fries aren’t priced as a combo, which I didn’t love, but it’s not a deal-breaker.
Thanks Twisted Root Burger Co. for a solid first-time experience—I’ll definitely be back
Customer service was excellent. They took care of a customer next to me that had a bad experience with the taste of a veggie burger they typically order.
I order the Millionaire because you are what you eat right. Hahaha. It was filling, you don’t need fries because it’s stacked with nice onion rings.
Also parking is limited. However you can overflow at the chase bank next door.
