Tuna bar is a lovely and inviting space to eat some solid sushi. We enjoyed our experience overall but there were certainly some high highs and low frustrations all at once.

We were there during happy hour and we got the karage appetizer. It was ok, the quality of chicken itself was a little bit questionable and stayed an exceptionally burning hot temperature for a long time, but the flavor itself and sauce was alright.

The most confusing mixed bag was the “chef’s combination” little tuna that we ordered. To quote the menu on what it is: “choice of 5pc sushi or 10pc sashimi. Chef’s selection and classic maki, no substitutions”. To me, this appears to say that you will receive three items: a sushi/sashimi, a chef’s selection, and a classic maki all for $45. However, the reality is that you only get two items: the 5pc sushi and the one maki. If we had known that was all we were getting for a very high price, we would not have ordered it. Perhaps that’s my fault for misinterpreting, but I did feel misled. The tuna maki itself was also pretty bad, one of the least impressive I’ve had in a while. Fortunately, the 5pc sushi were truly exceptional. It was pricey, but at the very least the quality and craftsmanship of those bites was exquisite!

Finally, we ordered a specialty roll (we went with the “Fishtown”) which was pretty good, and I think their selection of specialty rolls in general were well curated and interesting and I would go back for more rolls. I also have to weirdly point out just how good the soy sauce here is. I’m not sure if it’s different or just my imagination, but the soy sauce is probably the best I’ve ever had.

Finally, our service wasn’t particularly great, we continually had a hard time hearing what our server was saying and she kept having to bounce between the bar and serving tables, so it didn’t seem like the best setup.

I went here for dinner and really enjoyed the cozy candlelit atmosphere ️✨ perfect for a nice night out. The sushi rolls were unique in both taste and variety, though I found them a bit on the smaller side. The rock shrimp was a standout appetizer! The spicy tuna flatbread wasn’t my favorite, but it was still decent. Overall, a solid spot with good vibes and creative sushi options!

The Tuna Bar is a standout. The service was excellent—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. The food was exceptional, fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. On top of that, the atmosphere has a cool, modern vibe that makes it a great spot for both a relaxed meal or a night out. Definitely a place I’d return to and recommend.

They were kind enough to accommodate us even though we didn’t have a reservation, which we really appreciated. The outdoor seating area was lovely—comfortable, inviting, and perfect for enjoying the nice weather. The host was incredibly attentive and welcoming, checking in just the right amount and making sure everything was taken care of.

We also enjoyed the food, which was fresh and flavorful, making the whole experience even more pleasant. Between the atmosphere, the service, and the food, it felt like a spot that really values its guests. We would definitely come back and recommend it to others looking for a warm and enjoyable dining experience.

Best sushi I’ve had in Philly. I also really like how their specialty sushi’s are philadelphia inspired. Suggest the Liberty roll

Tuna Bar is a beautiful sushi restaurant in Old City!

We loved the decor upon walking in, but instantly realized the restaurant was very loud. It was hard for us to have a conversation sitting just feet away.

I had a lycheetini to start. I was a bit disappointed, it felt overly sweet. However, the appetizers after were delicious. We got the rock shrimp and brussel sprouts. The rock shrimp was battered and fried well, brussel sprouts were perfectly crisp.

We got the fishtown roll. It was fresh tasting, but bland. It just didn’t have that wow factor that a lot of specialty rolls have. The flavor profile was too meh.

Overall, the food was good but not great. With how loud the restaurant was and that nothing stood out, I don’t think I would come back.

Wow! Some of the best sushi I’ve had! Everything was delicious. We had rock shrimp, wagyu beef spring rolls and spicy tuna crispy rice to start. All were excellent and I’d say try them all. A number of reviews mentioned the Liberty roll, which was really good. But I liked the Broad Street roll even more! A must get. We also had the Big Tuna and it was excellent too. Sat outside on a beautiful night. Do yourself a favor and get here soon!

Returned and had some of the same dishes that were still great. Also had the fatty tuna sashimi and the tuna shallot roll. Both were excellent, and I recommend them.

My husband and I had a lovely dinner at Tuna Bar for a date night. We had a reservation, but I hadn’t specified that we wanted to sit outside. When we arrived, I asked the host if it was possible, and she kindly accommodated us. The weather was perfect, and sitting outside gave a really nice European vibe. The street is narrow, so there wasn’t much traffic or noise—just a calm, pleasant atmosphere.

The interior also looked beautiful and upscale, but we still wanted to sit outside.

We started with the tuna flatbread as an appetizer—it looked like a sushi pizza and was probably the best choice of the night. It had a bit of a spicy kick and the flavors were really well balanced. I’d love to try something else next time, but I’ll still be ordering the flatbread again.

My husband had the miso soup, which he said was good—simple and as expected, but nothing special.

We ordered a mix of classic sushi rolls and two specialty makis. The classic rolls were nice, though personally I would’ve preferred a bit more spice. The eel avocado was my favorite from the classics. For the specialty rolls, we had the Fishtown and the Liberty, and both were excellent—really flavorful and well made.

We’re definitely planning to go back.

Awesome sushi spot in Old City. The creamy rock shrimp and karaage chicken were great starts and the oysters were flavorful and super unique. The sushi rolls were amazing. Would highly recommend.
