Friendly staff and food service was quick. Parking can be challenging but there are a few spots behind the restaurant; otherwise will have to park on the neighborhood streets.
– Banh mi que pate HP ($5.50) – tasty
– Banh boa xa xiu ($5.25) – similar to a Chinese steamed bun
– Banh da cua ($21.50) – broth was decent. Pork betel leaf was a touch dry, fish cakes were good
– Bun ca hoi ($17.95) – broth was light, could have used more dill. Fried salmon overcooked
– Xoi xeo ga ($15.95) – chicken was beyond dry. Sticky rice was very bland. Skip it
– Dua dam Hai Phong ($7.95)
– Cafe cot dua dam ($7.95) – basically a Vietnamese coffee with jelly in dessert form
The best dish, and honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life, is the Braised Pork Belly with Sticky Rice. It’s absolutely spectacular. The pork belly is served in a rich, flavorful broth with Chinese sausage, but the broth is what makes it unforgettable. The depth of flavor is just insane. It’s comforting, authentic, and perfectly balanced.
We’ve probably been here more than 25 times because it’s our favorite restaurant. Every time we try to find something new, we end up coming back here because nothing else comes close.
The starters are also amazing. We’ve ordered the pork buns, which are incredibly flavorful, and the vegetarian spring rolls wrapped in delicate rice paper — fresh, light, and very authentic. Everything tastes high quality and carefully prepared.
The desserts are authentic as well, with options like mango and a very diverse menu overall. The staff is extremely attentive, they always serve us water and tea, and at this point the owners even recognize us because we go so often.
If you’re in Vancouver, you absolutely need to try the Braised Pork Belly with Sticky Rice. The quality of the food is extraordinary. 100% recommended.
We ordered the red crab noodles, braised pork belly with sticky rice as our mains and they were great. But the stars of the show were the mini pork pate baguettes and the Hai Phong steamed bun. The baguettes were perfectly crispy and flavorful, and the steamed bun filling was perfectly balanced.
We also got the iced Viet coffee with condensed milk and it is always on point here. I’ve also tried the iced Viet coffee with coconut milk and that’s a winner also.
Had the free range chicken with glass noodle in soup which was generously portioned with 2 drumsticks.
Soup is more delicately flavoured than the usual pho soup you find around town.
Fried chicken wings were delicious and a great recommendation.
Ordered the No. 1 platter to take home to my husband and he gave it a thumbs up.
The menu here is packed and I’ll have to return several times to try all the other offerings I have my eyes on.
