Tricky Fish

  4.5 – 161 reviews  $$ • Seafood restaurant

Great food, fresh ingredients, simply prepared…any more than that and things get complicated. Tricky Fish, the idea for it anyway, was born along Chinquapin Reef in East Matagorda Bay. And on the water off Port A and near the barrier islands south of Cocodrie, LA. Days spent on the water and evenings spent with good friends, a cold beer and amazing food. Eating out should be a break from the real world. It should be fun, relaxing, a chance to get away from all the things that make our lives… well, complicated. A good meal, spending time with family and friends, trying a local craft beer or glass of wine on the patio – that’s what Tricky Fish is all about.

I love this place! This is by far the best place for fried seafood and raw oysters. Tricky Fish is welcoming, customer service oriented and the absolute best experience I have had in a long while. We sat, had drinks and even stayed longer and bought more company to stay longer. This place felt like home (I am from Maryland) and I love the bay oysters, familiar taste of the fried seafood and the dang drinks was just awesome. Go here, you will love it!

It was my birthday & our first time eating here. I must say AUSTIN, is the most attentive, polite & patient waiter I’ve ever encountered. The manager Cody came over & made sure were good. Overall our experience & food was great, which made my 45th birthday special.

Stopped by Tricky Fish while at the Ford Center for a sports event and it was one of the few restaurants during half time that was able to sit us without a wait. We had the cat fish platter and seafood tacos. The cat fish itself was very yummy, the only thing I wish was that it was fried for a little bit longer as it was a bit mushy. Still super yummy the way it was. The seafood tacos were also tasty and were topped with a nice cheese that really rounded out each bite. The Mai Tai was a bit disappointing, but I think that was just because the staff was being hit with rush hour and put the drink together. Overall, I still think this restaurant is worth coming by. You can tell that the management really values each customer. They go out of their ways to open the doors for you to the restaurant and stop by your table to say thank you for eating with them.

The food was decent, place definitely is a vibe. I would go back, to try some more of the menu although some of the food was not very tasteful. Too many flavors.

What a great seafood cajun hybrid restaurant at The Star! Great location, parking meh, but, it’s The Star. Great customer service! My bartender, Chaeni, was so nice, helped recommend a Beach Blossom signature drink that was delicious! Michael was so helpful and personable. When my daughter’s fish & chips came out, there weren’t many fries, ahem, chips…. so we asked for a few more, and Michael brought over more, fresh and piping hot!

Tried Tricky Fish out and I was happy I did! Across from The Star in Frisco, it’s a great place to grab lunch or a drink or two.

“Newer” location at the star replacing previous tri tip restaurant. Nice layout with space and bar is overlooking sidewalk. Friendly staff and quick service. Food was good, gumbo was on point and would recommend. Ordered Mahi and cooked well. Drinks were excellent on taste for us although 1 was a bit over iced. Would recommend as an good food option when hanging out at the star.

Great service and great atmosphere! We had great drinks, sangria and an old fashion. The crabcake for appetizer was very tasty. Our food was good. The grilled shrimp with crawfish Etoufee was a bit spicy but yummy. Husband loved the salmon and cheese grits.
