Another childhood favorite of mine! I stopped in today once again was happy! The sweet tea is the best around! I got the small catfish filet today with fried okra and onion rings. The portions are large! I left with a to go box, and grabbed a BBQ sandwich and fried pie to go so I have dinner for the next 2 nights!

Bbq not like it used to be since it changed owners the sauce taste like it came out of a can. On another hand their fish is awesome. Delicious and their veggies are also good. I can’t comment on the ribs. I’ve never had them.

There’s a lot of history at Top Hat and it’s a neat restaurant in a throwback little town. The pork was tender and had a good flavor but it was the only thing that tasted fresh and homemade. It has been years since I’ve eaten here and it wasn’t what I remembered.

I hadn’t eaten there for some time since I don’t live nearby, but stopped on my way through. I was not disappointed. The food and service was as good as I remembered from my last visit. I highly recommend it.

The whole fried catfish was excellent. The slow cooked pork was good. The sides were okay at best. I didn’t care for the ketchup based BBQ sauce, and was surprised they didn’t offer ‘Alabama’ white BBQ sauce.

Unlike the other catfish reviews, mine was way undercooked and mushy in the middle. The girl at the register told me they could have cooked it more, but it was cut open and our waitress never was visible until she brought our check. Ugh.

Just north of Smoke Rise where Hwy 31 picks back up sits the Blount Springs Trading Post and Top Hat BBQ. I’ve been a few times now and have not been disappointed yet. Be warned it’s not your typical barbecue joint. They focus on the pulled pork, and don’t have the other usual suspects of BBQ meats such as ribs and so forth. The pork is real good. Nice sauce and the meat has the distinct but not overbearing flavor of smoke. The catfish was solid, and the chicken, and chicken strips were good! But the one thing I did fell in love with was the hush puppies. AMAZING! Definitely worth the trip. And I always venture to the Blount Springs Trading Post after. Love the the tin signs.
