Tikal I – Mexican Restaurant in Greenport

Tikal is the sneaky place you don’t want to miss in Greenport. High quality, handmade food from this Guatemalan kitchen is amazing.

Strolling through Greenport and being hungry my family and I stumbled upon this Mex Guatemalan restaurant. Went in and the first thing that hit us was the place was pretty warm, only saw some fans running. Looks like there AC system was off for whatever reason.

My husband and I got steaks and they were full of nerves and very tough. Asked the waitress and she said that was the type of meat they serve. It was not worth $18 and $20. Go somewhere else!

Tikal is the sneaky place you don’t want to miss in Greenport. High quality, handmade food from this Guatemalan kitchen is amazing. The chicken soup might be the best ( don’t tell Grandma!). Don’t let the big empty room fool you- it’s regularly packed for special events!

Beautiful restaurant. Wonderful food. Very kind service. Everything seems freshly made (even the chips) and extremely fairly priced. If i can give more than 5 stars i would.

Rude owner. Food is ordinary even accounting for lower prices. Can be safely avoided.

Cannot recommend. Went here for lunch with a buddy. Service extremely slow, single waitress for maybe 3 tables. She obviously wasn’t concerned about the customers wait. No complementary chips and salsa for the table, but ok, I’ll bite and pay 7 bucks. When they arrive it’s maybe 12 chips max and the smallest puddle of salsa ever. I ordered Taco’s and my buddy steak and shrimp. When the Taco’s arrive way slow I see it’s diced meat on a single corn tortilla, nothing else. No cilantro, no tomato, no lettuce, no onion, no sour cream, and no sauce/salsa either. I politely ask if there’s salsa and I get a confused look from the waitress. She finally goes in and returns with a small bottle of hot sauce. Uh no, that’s not it. Then returns with salsa verde. Uh no. So I ask for the same salsa we got with the chips, so ok after a nice long wait I get the world’s smallest dish of salsa, Fine. My buddy’s steak was gray in color and pounded to the thickness of a pancake, so he didn’t eat it. I wouldn’t either. When the check finally comes, big surprise. Those fountain drink diet cokes we had were 4 bucks a pop, no included refills. So five sodas between us equals 20 bucks – for soda. I asked the waitress about that and she said “it’s fancy”. I said what? The sodas in the plastic cup or the tacos with nothing on them? When I told her we wouldn’t be coming back she seriously looked surprised. Really? 4.8 rating, no way.

This must have been my 10th trip to Tikal. I live in centereach and love to drive on Rt.25 all the way out to Greenport. It’s a beautiful, calming drive, very scenic, you see all the vineyards and the old beautiful churches, homes and shops. Then as you get closer to Greenport you start to see the water along the North shore. Greenport is a great little town overlooking the water and you can walk around to eat and shop. Tikal is a latino restaurant and it’s my favorite place to eat out of all the restaurants there. The food is so fresh and it tastes home made. They make fresh chips that come out hot and served with a delicious guacamole dip! I had the shrimp taco bowl and my daughter had the steak fajitas. Delicious every time, I’ve never been disappointed. I love this place! This is my 3rd review!Great prices, friendly service. Highly recommend!!
