I visited Wildwood Tavern on 03/07/2026 with friends and family to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately the experience left us feeling very unwelcome.
I have actually been to Wildwood Tavern before with my mom and enjoyed the food, the corn fritters in particular are something I’ve loved in the past, and I’ve even filmed a video there before for a vlog. This visit, however, was very different.
When we were seated, our server Cali came over and dropped the menus onto the table rather than handing them to us. We brushed it off and continued looking over the menu.
Since it was my birthday, we asked if they offered any birthday specials. She excitedly told us about the key lime pie and how good it was, which made us excited to try it.
A little later, while we were laughing and talking, I noticed our server standing off to the side staring at our table. When we made eye contact, the expression quickly changed and she came over smiling and asked if we were ready to order. The interaction felt noticeably uncomfortable and forced.
We ordered the corn fritters and the key lime pie she recommended. After talking it over for a moment, we decided we actually didn’t want the appetizer anymore and politely asked if the fritters could be removed so we could just keep the pie order.
We were still planning to enjoy dessert and possibly order more afterward since we were there celebrating a birthday.
Her response, in front of other tables nearby while we were celebrating, was: “You can’t just come in, get water, and get a free key lime pie. That’s not how this works.”
The tone was dismissive and honestly embarrassing, especially with families sitting directly behind us. If there are policies about birthday desserts requiring a purchase, that is completely understandable, but there is a respectful way to communicate that to guests.
At that point, we decided to cancel everything and leave.
What makes this especially disappointing is that my mom frequents this restaurant and has always spoken highly of it, which is why we chose it to celebrate in the first place.
We did speak with a manager afterward who was kind and apologetic, which we appreciate. I just hope that future guests are treated with more respect and made to feel welcome.
All people! All of them.
When we first sat down, the waitress asked what we wanted to drink, and I said water for the moment — which was fine. But after bringing the water, she never came back to offer a refill or ask if we wanted anything else to drink.
The food was hit or miss. The wings were way overcooked and the chicken was very dry. The fries weren’t good at all — they were cold, chewy, and tasted like they had been reheated. One fry even tasted like seafood, according to my daughter. The grilled cheese, however, was actually really good. The cheese curds were mediocre at best.
When we were done, I placed our napkins on the plates to signal we were finished after about 10 minutes i then stacked our plates and took my wallet out, but it still took the waitress well over 15 minutes to come by, even other staff walked past us multiple times.and she was at the bar and she looked at our table multiple times.
Overall, I’m not sure how this place has a 4.5 rating.
Whelp-after less then 24 hours im also almost 100% certain I got food poisoning just beware. If the food doesnt look or taste right…dont be like me and just deal with it…I learned my lesson
