The Steam Room is an absolute must-visit for incredible seafood and unbeatable views! The star of the menu for me is their lobster roll—packed with sweet, tender lobster meat, lightly dressed so the flavor shines, and served on a perfectly toasted bun. It’s generous, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Pair it with their crisp fries or a cup of chowder and you’ve got the perfect seaside meal.

What really makes this place special is the amazing view of the ferry right from your table. You can sit outside, enjoy the sea breeze, and watch the boats come and go—it’s relaxing and so uniquely coastal. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, ideal for everything from a quick lunch to a leisurely dinner.

The staff is friendly and efficient, keeping everything running smoothly even when it’s busy. If you’re anywhere near the waterfront and craving fantastic seafood with a true harbor vibe, The Steam Room is the place to go. Fresh food, great service, and that beautiful ferry view make it a five-star experience every time!

A great stop after getting off the ferry or anytime you are in port Jeff. We enjoyed our lunch and it’s dog friendly! Large portions, fast service and friendly staff. Highly recommend!!!

We didn’t have much time before our ferry to CT and stepped into the Steam Room, which was a casual seafood spot conveniently located just across from the ferry port.

When we asked if we could order food to go quickly, the staff was helpful and told us the lobster rolls would be quick, so we ordered 2 lobster rolls and a clam chowder to go. (plus a Diet Pepsi, which was full of ice)

The clam chowder was nice and the lobster rolls were good, too, although they were a bit small and I prefer toasted buns.
The lobster rolls come with butter and lemon. Without them, it doesn’t have much taste—especially the bun.

The Steam Room was a good option for takeout food, but I think we would try other places for dining in next time.

Been going here since being an undergrad at SUNY Stony Brook. Usually order the Lobster dinner. Casual place, no frills dining. We had a lovely waitress who was very attentive. Decent prices and they have $10 special soup and half sandwich. We had the clam chowder that was delicious. My mom ordered the special with roast beef melt sandwich. I had ordered the broiled lobster tail dinner. Disappointed with the size of the tail but it was seasoned and prepared nicely. Portion sized worked out cause it allowed room for the chowder:) Located across from the ferry. Nice place to hang out and people watch as well as enjoying the water view.

The Steam Room is in such a beautiful location. So on a very pleasant sunny Memorial Day, we decided to stop in and give it a try. It had been years since I have eaten there, before they had servers. Our waiter Greg was cheerful & made us laugh. He was very personable & had menu knowledge. Our food was delivered rather quickly after we ordered. The Coconut shrimp had a good taste but came out a little mushy. The dipping sauce was tangy, which I enjoyed because I like to dip. The scallops were a bit on the small side, but they were pretty tasty. It was an overall lovely experience, I will definitely return, especially on a warm breezy day!

Loved the outdoor seating area here. The atmosphere is laid back. I like that it is near the water. The food is very good. I had the Shrimp Basket which is not uncommon but what was different was how lightly breaded it was and I loved that because some places use to much breading. The service is good and the prices are super reasonable. If I didn’t live so far from here, I would visit more often.

The Steam Room is situated in beautiful, historic Port Jefferson seaport. I’m revising my original review and I am comfortable with this. While it seems that the manager and workers seem well mannered and the seafood seems fresh, sadly I do have to limit my overall rating based on what it’s lacking. So the Steam Room is akin to a fast-food style place. When you walk in they seat you, give you a menu then inform you that to order you go to the counter and wait on line. One line. Only one. It could be empty, it could go down the stairs out of the place. Just one line. So after ordering you get to your table and wait, which isn’t too bad. The drinks arrive first and sure enough the server tips their tray and here comes the lemonade all over the place. Side note, the server also spilled a lobster platter on another table as well. The server was polite but apparently they don’t know how to hold their tray.

So on to the food. The raw clams and oysters are fresh. I’ve had so much better for the price but at least it’s fresh. The other seafood also seemed fresh, except the Calamari which by the way when fried should be crispy. Theirs is not. No breading, not even a dusting. It had to be sent back. While the food in general is not bad, it severely lacks in flavor. It appears they don’t season anything. They have sauces and sea salt on the table but nothing is prepared with any seasoning at all. Even the Lemonade has little sweetness or even lemon flavor.

So given that you have to pay 3-star prices, wait on line to order, food is flavorless and not prepared so well, I know this place can do better. Also did i mention the really obnoxious fluorescent signs right in your face? Outdoor lighting are these really strong fluorescent signs where the pictures are fading and the glare in unbearable!

Again this place can do so much better, but I don’t think they’re going to anytime soon. I will return in about a year once they bounce back from the pandemic a bit more and I do hope they’re doing things a bit better.

A cute restaurant but the food was sub par. Lots of choices but not for kids and I kept getting pieces of shell in all my different seafood. Martinis were good!
